The user is able to search for Ryan White-funded medical care providers nearest a specific complete address, city and state, state and county, or ZIP code. 5. In a number of states Medicaid patients may be eligible for a free cell phone: http://www.cga.ct.gov/2010/rpt/2010-R-0514.htm/ Assurance Wireless provides eligible low-income individuals with a free wireless phone and 250 free minutes of nationwide cell phone service each month. There are no long-term contracts, activation and recurring fees, or surcharges for program participants. Assurance Wireless is provided by Virgin Mobile USA and is a Lifeline Assistance program supported by the Federal Communications Commission's (FCC) Universal Service Fund. It is currently available in 13 states: Florida, Indiana, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Mississippi, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia. Eligibility varies by state, although generally an individual qualifies for the program if he or she participates in certain government assistance programs, including Medicaid, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP; formerly known as Food Stamps). Each state, except Maryland and West Virginia, also allows an individual to qualify for the program based on his or her household income. Service is terminated once an individual no longer meets these eligibility requirements. 6. NIDA Drugs + HIV: Learn the Link Campaign: http://hiv.drugabuse.gov/ Behaviors associated with drug abuse are among the main factors in the spread of HIV infection in the United States. Drugs can change the way the brain works, disrupting the parts of the brain that people use to weigh risks and benefits when making decisions. This campaign site, sponsored by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) connects people to information about the link between drug abuse and HIV infection. It contains information for young people, parents and teachers, and the media with links to our latest research findings and news updates. 7. HRSA UCARE4LIFE : http://www.hhs.gov/news/press/2012pres/07/20120722a.html UCARE4LIFE is a mobile texting program where the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) will partner with the MAC AIDS Fund to launch a mobile texting pilot program to help patients get important reminders and tips for managing their HIV/AIDS health issues. The program will develop a 56
message library to deliver timely phone text reminders in English and Spanish to remind HIV-positive individuals about their medical appointments and when to take their medications. This two-year project will focus on the southern states where the epidemic is rising fast among youth. 8. The Dartmouth Center for Technology and Behavioral Health Therapeutic Education System (TES): http://www.c4tbh.org/technology-in-action/programreviews/substance-use-disorders/tes.html/ Dartmouth College’s Center for Technology and Behavioral Health Therapeutic Education System (TES) is a computer assisted web-based program for HIV prevention, sexually transmitted infections and hepatitis for youth and adults. TES is composed of interactive, multimedia modules, including those focused on cognitive behavioral skills training (e.g., effective strategies for refusing drugs, managing thoughts about drug use, functional analysis/selfmanagement planning, etc.). TES also includes modules to prevent HIV, hepatitis, and sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Additional modules teach skills to improve psychosocial functioning (e.g., family/social relations, managing negative moods, etc.). 9. CDC Hepatitis Risk Assessment: http://www.cdc.gov/hepatitis/riskassessment/ This 5-minute online assessment is designed to determine an individual’s risk for viral hepatitis by asking questions based on the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) guidelines for testing and vaccination. The Assessment allows individuals to answer questions privately and print out their recommendations to discuss with their doctor. 10. STD Risk assessment tools: http://www.stdwizard.org/ Are you at risk for a sexually transmitted infection (STI)? Find out if you need to get tested for an STI such as HIV, hepatitis, or Chlamydia. Recommendations are based on 2010 STD Treatment Guidelines, from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
