Day 8: Hittisau. Hittisau nestles in
a beautiful Austrian valley amid the
Bregenzer Alps. Close to the Swiss
border, the architecture resembles that
of its near neighbour – picture-perfect
chalets clad with intricate wood tiles
and vivid flower boxes. Although the
village is home to just a few hundred
residents, Hittisau boasts three Michelinrated
restaurants (rustic venues with the
emphasis on delicious local specialities
rather than pretentious cooking and star
ratings). Explore the superb scenery of
this peaceful corner of Austria along its
numerous quiet lanes and tracks.
Day 9: Hittisau to Bad
Oberstaufen. Fortunately for us, the
pure serenity of this area still remains
a well-kept secret – its tranquillity and
exceptional beauty is truly inspiring: a
cycling paradise of lush valleys dotted
with chocolate box farmhouses and
immaculate villages linked by peaceful
lanes. Our route continues north
through this beguiling landscape to the
spa town, Bad Oberstaufen. 22 miles
(35km).
Day 10: Bad Oberstaufen.
Regarded as Allgäu’s most charming
village, Bad Oberstaufen is a stunning
retreat of traditional buildings decorated
with stunning murals and vibrant
flowers. Relax in hospitable inns and
taste delightful Bavarian cuisine, or treat
yourself to indulgent cakes in stylish
cafés. It’s little wonder that this setting is
equally appealing to cyclists and walkers.
To the north, a labyrinth of quiet lanes
offer enjoyable rides through pristine
alpine meadows; the majestic peaks to
the south, meanwhile, can be reached
by cable car.
Day 11: Today we say “Auf
Wiedersehen” and transfer you back
to Munich airport by train or minibus, and
look forward to welcoming you back again
next year.
