SOCCER REGULATIONS<br />

I. General Rules<br />

A. National Federation rules will be used in all games.<br />

B. Head coach must attend a <strong>League</strong> sponsored rules clinic.<br />

C. No match may end in a tie. In regular season matches, there will be two full five<br />

minute overtime periods. If a tie still exists, penalty kicks will determine the winner.<br />

D. In the event a soccer match is called prior to completion of one half because of<br />

conditions, which make it impossible to continue play, the game will resume at the<br />

point of interruption.<br />

E. <strong>School</strong>s must use officials that are certified by the <strong>League</strong> Office.<br />

F. Instructions for postponing or canceling games for which certified officials are<br />

booked are printed on page B-56 of the <strong>League</strong> <strong>Handbook</strong>.<br />

G. Soccer teams are allowed 16 regular season games and two tournaments or 18<br />

regular season games and one tournament. Varsity teams are allowed two<br />

tournaments, four scrimmages and one jamboree. JV teams are allowed 14 games,<br />

two tournaments, two scrimmages and one jamboree. One tournament may be preseason<br />

and start on February 27.<br />

H. The State Finals will be played at Stone Stadium - USC in Columbia.<br />

II.<br />

State Playoffs – Boys and Girls<br />

A. 32 teams will qualify for the state play-offs.<br />

B. Each region will be responsible for determining the method for assigning play-off<br />

positions in the event that teams are tied. It is the region’s responsibility (either the<br />

region coordinator or designee) to forward this information to the <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong><br />

<strong>League</strong> by 9:00 a.m. on May 8, 20<strong>09</strong>. May 7 is the last play date.<br />

C. Brackets – See page 42.<br />

D. In the event a match ends in a tie the following procedure will be used until the tie is<br />

broken.<br />

1. Two full ten minute overtime periods.<br />

2. Two five minute sudden victory overtime periods will be used.<br />

3. Penalty kicks will determine the winner.<br />
