Movements dur<strong>in</strong>g daylight<br />

From <strong>the</strong> data presented <strong>in</strong> Figure 8 it is evident that fish are predom<strong>in</strong>antly<br />

active at night, although daylight movements were also recorded. Although<br />

many of <strong>the</strong>se movements were <strong>by</strong> fish cont<strong>in</strong>u<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong>ir migrations after<br />

dawn, some were recorded recommenc<strong>in</strong>g migrations dur<strong>in</strong>g daylight.<br />

Table V summarises <strong>in</strong>formation on those fish that recommenced<br />

movements dur<strong>in</strong>g daylight toge<strong>the</strong>r with <strong>the</strong> prevail<strong>in</strong>g flow data, <strong>the</strong><br />

maximum daily discharge and <strong>the</strong> relative percentage of <strong>the</strong> mean monthly<br />

discharge (% MMD).<br />

From <strong>the</strong> data presented <strong>in</strong> Table V it is evident that <strong>the</strong>re is a close<br />

<strong>as</strong>sociation between daylight migrations and <strong>in</strong>cre<strong>as</strong>es <strong>in</strong> river discharge: of<br />

<strong>the</strong> 30 daylight movements, 27 (90%) occurred dur<strong>in</strong>g spate conditions<br />

whilst only three (10%) took place when <strong>the</strong>re w<strong>as</strong> no spate.
