A fur<strong>the</strong>r <strong>as</strong>cent began on 8 June reach<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> Avonmouth ALSTN on 12<br />

June. Incre<strong>as</strong>ed d~scharges were recorded at Boat o'Brig (MDD 49 m3 S-1.<br />

153% MMD) on 6 June, just prior to <strong>the</strong> <strong>as</strong>cent. A small spate of 11.2 m3<br />

s.1 (167% MMD) w<strong>as</strong> recorded dur<strong>in</strong>g 13 June on <strong>the</strong> Avon and this may<br />

have encouraged <strong>the</strong> entry to <strong>the</strong> tributary. However, <strong>the</strong> exact time of<br />

entry w<strong>as</strong> not recorded.<br />

The fish returned down stream to <strong>the</strong> ma<strong>in</strong> stem on 29 June when <strong>the</strong><br />

MDD at Deln<strong>as</strong>haugh w<strong>as</strong> 8.4 m3 s.1 (125% MMD). It rema<strong>in</strong>ed at Carron<br />

Bridge (38 km) until 17 August. From mid August onwards <strong>the</strong> signals from<br />

<strong>the</strong> tag became very weak and accurate data for movements were not<br />

obta<strong>in</strong>able. A f<strong>in</strong>al signal from <strong>the</strong> fish w<strong>as</strong> detected <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>River</strong> Avon on<br />

27 September near Glenballoch (56.9 km).<br />

Figure 16 shows <strong>the</strong> tracks for F41.89 and F44.89, toge<strong>the</strong>r with <strong>the</strong> hourly<br />

flow rates recorded at Boat o'Brig and Deln<strong>as</strong>haugh.<br />

Fish F41.89 and F44.89, both grilse, were rele<strong>as</strong>ed on 23 June. From<br />

Figure 16 it is clear that <strong>the</strong>y showed very different rates of up-stream<br />

progress.<br />

Fish FM89 progressed rapidly up stream reach<strong>in</strong>g Avonmouth ALSTN (50<br />

km) <strong>in</strong> 5.2 days. It w<strong>as</strong> recorded <strong>as</strong>cend<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> tributary on <strong>the</strong> Dalmenach<br />

ALSTN on l July, <strong>the</strong> mean daily discharge at Deln<strong>as</strong>haugh on 29 June<br />

be<strong>in</strong>g 14.2 m3 s.1 (21 1% MMD). As tributary levels dropped, <strong>the</strong> fish<br />

returned to <strong>the</strong> ma<strong>in</strong> stem, settl<strong>in</strong>g at <strong>the</strong> mouth of <strong>the</strong> Cally Burn (45 km).<br />

It re-entered <strong>the</strong> Avon on 20 August when <strong>the</strong> maximum flow rate at<br />

Deln<strong>as</strong>haugh w<strong>as</strong> 5.8 m3 s.1 (136% MMD). Contact w<strong>as</strong> lost until 27<br />

September when it w<strong>as</strong> located at <strong>the</strong> L<strong>in</strong>n of Avon, 88.4 km from <strong>the</strong> sea
