Although fish F12.89 reached <strong>the</strong> confluence of <strong>the</strong> Avon on 7 May, no<br />

positive record of it enter<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> tributary w<strong>as</strong> obta<strong>in</strong>ed. It subsequently<br />

dropped back down stream reach<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> Brae Water Beat Number 5<br />

ALSTN (9.2 km) on 12 May before mak<strong>in</strong>g a short up-stream migration to<br />

<strong>the</strong> Holly Bush pool, Delfur (19.7 km), where it rema<strong>in</strong>ed until contact w<strong>as</strong><br />

lost through tag failure. Fish F28.89 rele<strong>as</strong>ed on 26 April w<strong>as</strong> l<strong>as</strong>t recorded<br />

<strong>by</strong> <strong>the</strong> Avonmouth ALSTN on 17 May. No fur<strong>the</strong>r signals were received for<br />

F12.89 or F28.89 <strong>in</strong> ei<strong>the</strong>r <strong>the</strong> ma<strong>in</strong> stem or throughout <strong>the</strong> length of <strong>the</strong><br />

Avon, despite extensive aerial surveys.<br />

Figure 15 shows <strong>the</strong> movements of F4.89 which w<strong>as</strong> rele<strong>as</strong>ed on 8<br />

February. Also shown are <strong>the</strong> hourly flow rates recorded at Boat o'Brig<br />

and Deln<strong>as</strong>haugh. The up-stream progress shown <strong>in</strong>itially <strong>by</strong> F4.89 w<strong>as</strong><br />

similar to that shown <strong>by</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r radiodtagged spr<strong>in</strong>g salmon. It reached <strong>the</strong><br />

Sourden Pool, Delfur (20.9 km) on 20 February and rema<strong>in</strong>ed <strong>the</strong>re until<br />

mid April.<br />

F4.89 made four approaches to <strong>the</strong> tributary. The first began from <strong>the</strong><br />

Collie Pot, Arndilly (24.8 km) soon after 8 May. The fish reached <strong>the</strong><br />

Avonmouth ALSTN on 18 May but did not appear to enter <strong>the</strong> tributary.<br />

This movement may have been stimulated <strong>by</strong> a spate occurr<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

tributary on 12 May. The fish subsequently dropped back to Island Roary,<br />

Knockando (41 km), where it rema<strong>in</strong>ed before <strong>as</strong>cend<strong>in</strong>g to enter <strong>the</strong> Avon<br />

on 24 May. It rema~ned In <strong>the</strong> Avon near Deln<strong>as</strong>haugh Hotel (52 km) before
