JUNIOR
SCHOOL
CHAPEL
On Sunday I felt scared because it
was the Junior Syndicate Chapel
Service! James was Moses, Vegas was
the Narrator and Oli was Jesus. The
play went well and the parents were
impressed. My line was …always tell
the truth about others. It was fun! The
Ten Commandments teach us how
God wants us to live.
Ariel Bridgman 3TB
First our parents took their sons to the
church. We had to organise ourselves
and we had to be there in time, 15
minutes early. We sat on choir chairs,
then we started the play. Vegas started
reading, he kept on reading until
Moses read the Ten Commandments.
Then all the people in the class read
out their rules. The Year 1 and 2 boys
read out their prayers, they were very
good. Next we had morning tea, I
had juice and some cookies. We are
looking forward to doing the play
again for the rest of the school.
THE HEART FOUNDATION’S
LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT DAY
On Wednesday 25 May, four boys in Years 7
and 8 were selected to take part in the Heart
Foundation’s Learning and Development
Day at the Wellington Basketball Stadium.
Jake Alderson, Sebastian Yeoman, James
Maitland and Billy Proctor went along with
Miss Partridge.
When we arrived at the venue, we were
greeted by the Heart Foundation and
saw that there were many other schools
there. We immediately did a warm-up and
got prepared for the day. Together the
students did a ferocious haka to welcome
American Peter Nestler, World Champion
Skipper who was going to be working
with us for the day.
Peter then gave a quick talk and did
some awesome tricks, such as quadruple
jumps, skipping through his legs, skipping
while lying down and many others! He
even skipped while riding a unicycle!!
After Peter’s talk we got into action. We
started by learning how to hold a skipping
rope properly and then he taught us simple
tricks like crosses and double jumps. Next
came the hard stuff; skipping through
our legs, 360 skipping, rope catching and
skipping under our legs. Even after many
attempts we couldn’t master those, but each
of us is determined to get it through practice!
After our well-earned break, we did
double dutch. Firstly, we learnt how to turn
the ropes before putting our jumping into
action. At the start we struggled, but as we
went on we were all able to jump the two
ropes. Then we had one final performance
from Peter. He was amazing at double
dutch! He could break dance and do push
ups while jumping. Then we sadly said
goodbye to Peter and his wife.
For the final part of the day, we learnt
about nutrition and what is good for your
body. We had a food relay where we had to
put pictures of food into the correct food
group and Scots cleaned up!
All in all we had a great day and we are
all keen to show off our tricks at school!
WHEN RONALD McDONALD CAME TO SCHOOL – 8 AUGUST 2011
Ronald McDonald came to school. He told
me to stop, look and listen. The song he
sang was on T.V. He told us a story. In the
car always buckle your seat belt. It was
FUNNY!
Nicholas Teh, 2JP
Ronald McDonald came to school today.
He told me to make my seatbelt click. He
also told us when we go across a crossing,
take one step back from the road.
Kahurangi Millin, 2JP
Ronald McDonald came to school. He
told me to stop, look and listen. He said to
make it click! He told us a story. It was fun!
He gave us a sock.
Prep School at All Black Test Match
Scots College Prep School was invited to be involved in the pre-match entertainment for
the All Blacks Tri Nations Test Match against South Africa at Westpac Stadium on Saturday
30 July.
52 boys throughout Years 2-8 were selected
to take part in this exciting opportunity.
As part of the entertainment segment,
there was a celebration of the New
Zealand Provincial Unions with a parade of
flags. Boys then held a large All Blacks Flag
and enjoyed viewing the fireworks display
from the centre of the field.
Many boys stayed on with their parents
to watch the All Blacks’ confident win
against the Springboks.
“Boys then held a large
All Blacks Flag and enjoyed
viewing the fi reworks…”
We are looking forward to future
opportunities to be involved in the
pre-match entertainment for games as
these true rugby supporters enjoyed this
experience immensely. Perhaps you’ll see
Scots entertaining at the Rugby World
Cup!
Congratulations boys, you were a
credit to our school.
House Haka Competition 2011
On 8 July 2011 the Prep School held its
annual House Haka competition. It was the
perfect day for house rivalry; both parents
and students were excited. The afternoon
began with the acknowledgement of our
judge, the school Chaplain, Mr Carr. Then
we were informed about the order of
performance.
Led by Kiwa and Stanley, McKelvie
House started the competition off
exceedingly well, with a fascinating oval
formation surrounding the leaders. This
formation, amid great timing and bold
actions, truly showed all the time and
effort put into being a definite competitor.
Up next was Potatau House. Leader
George showed true leader attributes
for his house. Potatau revealed chilling
pukana, which balanced with the hardhitting
voices and strong stances.
Third to the stage, led by William, was
Bedding House. Swiftly and quietly moving
to and from the stage showed they had
practised numerous times. William gave
daunting commands to his house and
Bedding responded immediately.
Finally came Macarthur House. Very
loud and powerful commands came from
leader Billy. Macarthur House performed
closely in sync and gave an intimidating
Pukana to the audience. A good way to
finish off the competition.
Once every house had their opportunity
to perform the haka, the Chaplain gave
everyone a brief speech about the
meaning of the haka and what it means to
the school. After the speech he revealed
this year’s champions.
McKelvie House came out on top
due to their excellent timing plus their
pristine and gallant finish. All in all, this
competition was one to remember for
days to come and a great way to finish off
the first semester.
