Awarded to Nine<br />
<strong>The</strong> Un i versity has awarded nine fre s h-<br />
men full-tuition Presidential Scholarships<br />
named in honor <strong>of</strong> individuals who have<br />
made significant contributions to the<br />
Un i versity and the community.<br />
Presidential Scholarships are awarded<br />
to incoming freshmen with exemplary<br />
high school records both inside and outside<br />
the classroom. <strong>The</strong> scholarships<br />
c over the full cost <strong>of</strong> tuition for four ye a r s<br />
<strong>of</strong> study as long as the recipient maintains<br />
at least a 3.25 grade point average.<br />

F reshman Class Drawn from Record Pool <strong>of</strong> Applicants<br />
<strong>The</strong> <strong>University</strong> welcomed more than 1,350 incoming students this <strong>fall</strong>, including<br />
979 full-time freshman students; 79 transfers to the undergraduate day school; approximately<br />
100 adult and part-time students and more than 200 students entering the<br />
Graduate School.<br />
<strong>The</strong> incoming undergraduate class is already in the school’s re c o rd books, re p re s e n t-<br />
ing the largest applicant pool in the Un i ve r s i t y’s 115-year history. <strong>The</strong> entering undergraduate<br />
students we re drawn from more than 5,649 applicants, which is a 10 perc e n t<br />
i n c rease over the last ye a r’s re c o rd <strong>of</strong> 5,123 applicants.<br />
Joseph H. Dreisbach, Ph.D., Dean <strong>of</strong> the College <strong>of</strong> Arts and Sciences,<br />
presented awards during the third annual Honors Convocation.<br />
Honors Convocation Celebrates Academic Achievement<br />
Ap p roximately 590 students we re re c o g n i zed at the third annual Honors Convo c a t i o n<br />
for undergraduate students held on Oct. 26.<br />
<strong>The</strong> President, Provost, Deans and faculty <strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong> honored students who<br />
achieved the Dean’s List for both semesters <strong>of</strong> the 2002-<strong>2003</strong> academic year, as well<br />
as those who won other scholastic awards in the course <strong>of</strong> the year. Individual convocations<br />
were held for each <strong>of</strong> the four colleges. <strong>The</strong> convocations were followed by<br />
receptions for students and their guests.<br />
