The Yorkshire Linen Co, Mazarrón – Now
Even Bigger, Brighter and Better!
on value. Customers will find even more
choice of products with new ranges such as
dried flowers and vases, ornaments, pictures,
candles, lampshades and rugs.”
The Yorkshire Linen Company’s success is
built on the ‘customer being king’ and they
take great pride in providing outstanding
products backed by an extremely high
standard of customer care. Their motto of
‘expect more, pay less’ encapsulates their
whole philosophy.
One of the area’s most popular stores, The
Yorkshire Linen Co, has now expanded
to give its customers even more choice and
space. Extending into the unit next door has
increased the floor space to over 200 square
metres. Peter and Karen, who own the
business, said “We had outgrown the existing
shop and really needed more space. We
decided to invest in the business due to the
growing demand for specialist soft furnishings
products. By listening to our customers,
we think we know exactly what they want
in terms of stock on the shelves, plus the
environment they prefer to shop in. We
are in our eighth year of business and have
gained an envious reputation for providing
customers with a wide range of home textiles
and decorative accessories for every room
in the house, at fantastic prices. We can
now offer our customers a greater range of
home furnishings with the emphasis firmly
A real success story, The Yorkshire Linen
Company is an established and influential
retail operator in the UK and has more than
40 stores and employs over 300 staff. There
are now 9 stores in Spain and Portugal. As
franchisees, this allows Peter and Karen
to pass on great choice and value to their
customers. With regular deliveries from
the UK and other suppliers in Spain and
Germany, a lot of the collections are unique
to The Yorkshire Linen Co and customers
know that they can buy something a bit
different for their homes. This, alongside
their excellent level of service and advice, has
seen the business grow into one of the most
popular shops in the area. Many customers
have become friends and lots of people pop
in regularly to see what is new and pick up
the papers, the Chronicle or just for a chat
or a sweet! Peter, Karen and their staff look
forward to serving you in 2013 and would like
to wish everyone a very happy, healthy and
peaceful New Year.
The Evolutionists of Almeria and Murcia.
Two organised walks took place on November
18 th , both in the San Juan de los Terreros area.
One walk planned for the less serious walkers
attracted 11 participants and proceeded
along the Paseo to the coastal village of Pozo
del Esparto, lasting about 2.5 hours along flat
terrain.
The main walk had 23 participants and
commenced at the village of Los Lobos (where
we were dismayed by the extensive damage
from the recent storm), and proceeded up the
seemingly endless slopes of Mt Tenerife. The
extensive, derelict mine workings, going back
120 years, at one time employed upwards of
12,000 men and offered us a fascinating insight
into the deprivations and industry of previous
generations. We rested a while noting a huge
toothed wheel with its two massive boilers,
(made in Reading Berks!), and now ripe for
renovation. After 2.5 hours of a strenuous
uphill pull, we reached the high ridge and
were rewarded with magnificent sunlit views
along the coast and inland. The group then
repaired downhill to a restaurant in San Juan
de los Terreros for a rest and well-earned
refreshment. There were 35 diners in all
and the conviviality continued all afternoon.
The Evolutionists enjoyed a lovely walk on
Saturday 15th December in perfect, mild
weather. With 11 people in the group, Joan
and Jon Thompson led us from Bolnuevo
Paseo across the slopes of the Moreras. After
our 3 hour excursion, Rincon Elias provided an
excellent menu and a convivial atmosphere.
Our next walk is in the New Year, on January
19th in the Aguilas area. Everyone is
welcome to take part in our walks which are
outlined on our website at bolnuevo.com/
evolutionists.
Following the AGM at which Richard Ward
was re-elected Chairman and John Blakey
Secretary/Treasurer, the group was treated
by Martin Rushton to a learned summary of
the work of the Hadron Collider in Switzerland
which he had visited recently. There, scientists
are searching for the Higgs Boson by setting
up ‘speed of light’ collisions using different
sub-atomic particles. This is to replicate the
conditions which occurred at the time of the
Big Bang.
If the Higgs Particle can be definitely
identified, the Standard Model of particle
physics and the creation of the Universe can
be finally verified as it is now believed to
react with other particles to convert energy
into mass. If so it would therefore explain
how all the immense energy at the birth of
the Universe 13.7 billion years ago has been
transformed into galaxies, planets, dust,
gas and every physical object in existence
(including ourselves).
The importance of this work will open up new
avenues of research and finally does away
with the notion that it is the ‘God Particle’.
