GOLDEN SHINER: This large shiner reaches a length of 7 inches or<br />

more. It can be found in low gradient streams, marshes, and<br />

farm ponds and is sold in some bait stores. Golden shiners are<br />

used mostly by largemouth bass and pike fishermen.<br />

SPOTTAIL SHINER: This shiner is abundant in Lake Erie and is a very<br />

popular bait with smallmouth bass fishermen.<br />

BLUNTNOSE MINNOW: The bluntnose minnow is widespread<br />

throughout the state. Millions are taken annually from streams<br />

and used as bait. This small minnow is a good bait for bass,<br />

crappies, and other panfish.<br />

<strong>OHIO</strong> STONEROLLER MINNOW: This minnow lives in streams having<br />

sandy-gravel bottoms. Males grow to 6 inches in length.
