Frequently Asked Questions, continued STUDENT ID CARD How do I get my student identification card? A student identification card (OneCard) can be issued to you once you have paid your Tuition Fees. The best time to obtain the OneCard is at orientation. Cards are also available in the One Stop Student Services Center. ORIENTATION How do I sign up for orientation? Beginning March 1, students may accept SF State admission and register for an orientation date online. Freshmen and Transfer Orientations occur in June and July (including three Southern California orientations). ADVISING How do I receive advising? Advising for new students occurs at New Student Orientation. Advising is essential for success. To receive early advising and registration for classes, new students must attend an orientation. See the Advising Center website for more information: www.sfsu.edu/~advising/orientation FINANCIAL AID Is it too late to apply for financial aid? No, you can still file for financial aid. The application is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov EOP Can I still apply for the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP)? You should have applied for EOP on the CSU Mentor website when you applied for admission. You may still apply for EOP by going to the EOP website at www.sfsu.edu/~eop/ how_to_apply.html Print out and complete the application and submit it to the EOP office by January 31, 2013. HOUSING When should I apply for housing? Housing fills quickly. You should apply before January 31, 2013 for fall housing, or as soon as you think about attending SF State. Housing applications are available online starting October 1, 2012. To apply, go to the University Housing website at www.sfsu.edu/~housing EPT/ELM Do I have to take the English (EPT) and Mathematics (ELM) Placement Tests? Your notice of admission indicates if you must take the tests in order to attend SF State. Students cannot attend SF State in the fall if they fail to take the placement tests by the final approved date of May 4, 2013. For more information, go to www.ets.org/csu or www.sfsu. edu/~testing When should I take the English (EPT) and Mathematics (ELM) Placement Tests? SF State urges freshmen to test early in February or March. You must test no later than May 4, 2013. Plan accordingly! For test registration and preparation, visit the Testing Services website: www.sfsu.edu/~testing Where can I take the English (EPT) and Mathematics (ELM) Placement Tests? The tests can be taken at any California State University campus. Be sure to list San Francisco State as the campus to receive your scores. For more information, go to www.ets.org/csu If I am a transfer student, do I need to take the English (EPT) and Mathematics (ELM) Tests? Your notice of admission will tell you if you need to take the EPT and ELM placement tests. How do I submit my Early Assessment Program (EAP) scores? If you have an EAP English or math exemption, the designations (scores) will be sent electronically to SF State. If you are conditionally exempt in math, taking and passing the appropriate course(s) in your final year of high school will exempt you from taking the mathematics (ELM) test. You must bring proof of satisfying EAP math conditions to orientation.
Frequently Asked Questions, continued EARLY START What is Early Start? Freshmen who score below 50 on the ELM are required to ”Early Start” before their first term of enrollment. Students who score below 138 on the EPT are required to meet the Early Start requirement by taking the SF State Directed Self Placement course during the summer. How do I sign up for Early Start? The New Student Requirements Checklist will indicate if you need to take a summer math course to meet Early Start. Follow the directions to sign up for Early Start Math either at SF State or at another CSU campus near your home. The Early Start English requirement must be satisfied by completing the online DSP at SF State prior to orientation and class registration. CMSPT Who should take Composition for Multilingual Students Placement Test (CMSPT)? • Non-native speakers of English who have been educated in a language other than English who were enrolled in ESL (English as a Second Language) classes at the last school they attended • Non-native English speakers who think they would benefit from ESL • Students with bilingual backgrounds who wish to substitute an upper division ESL course for a native English speaker course to fulfill the upper division writing requirement • For test dates and registration procedures, check the Testing Services website at www.sfsu.edu/~testing DISABILITY PROGRAMS AND RESOURCE CENTER What services are available for students with disabilities? Students with mobility, hearing, visual, communication, functional (e.g., HIV/ AIDS, environmental illness, psychiatric conditions, etc.) and learning disabilities may be eligible for services from the Disability Programs and Resource Center (DPRC). Services available through the DPRC are designed to promote and provide equal access to the classroom and campus-related activities.
