A motorsport circuit that might actually happen?
It seems like every year
there is a proposed
new race track that
makes headlines, and
although this isn’t a big
news story yet it is quite
possibly the best
chance of one getting
off the ground.
The proposed facility is
called the ‘Cardinia Motor
Recreation and Education
Park’ and is located
on the outskirts of
Pakenham in Melbourne’s
east. The
park will have both a
club level race track, a
world class go kart facility
and an area for a
skidpan and motorkhana.
The Pakenham Autosports Club used to have a motorsport facility with an autocross track and a motorkhana
pad however it was built on council owned land, so when the Pakenham Bypass went in the land was flattened.
Since this was closed there have been numerous attempts to get a motorsports facility up and going in the area
only for them to be turned down.
This park has already received
council approval as well as the support
of the Victorian Government,
Pakenham Police, CAMS, Motorcycling
Australia and the Chisholm
Institute and has already had a
$30,000 feasibility study put forward.
The proposed land is on what was
known as Mount Ararat Road which
is now known as Oakview Road,
from here you are on the eastern
end of the property looking back at
the freeway on the right and railway
on the left behind trees (see main
picture).
