APPENDIXES APPENDIX I 2005 Project/Programme Name: Donor(s): Implementing institution(s): Country 22 : Starting year of FSG project activities: End year of FSG Project activities: Total project funding: Farmer Study Group 21 Inventory Form, Year [Administrative Unit] No. Master Trainers No. trained facilitators No. trained farmer facilitators No. implemented FSGs Description of the Project/Programme: FSG principles: 21 For the purpose of this inventory Farmer Study Groups are defined as: • Groups of farmers (10-30 pers) • The group meets regularly over a longer period of time • Learning and knowledge creation takes place through participatory learning methods i.e experiential learning, problem based learning, training for transformation etc. • Farmers set the agenda for the learning activities, and follow a curriculum or learning schedule/plan. • The entry point for learning is with in the scope of rural development usually focusing on an agricultural enterprise/value chain, but even non-agricultural topics may be addressed by the group. • The expected outcome of such groups should be both agricultural enhancements as well as empowerment and group management skills. • If external resource persons are involved (such as extension staff or researchers) they should only have a facilitating role, i.e not be seen as leaders of the activity. 22 If a FSG approach is implemented in more countries, fill in a form for each country. 28
