PRINCIPAL’S NEWS<br />
PRINCIPALS’ CONFERENCE<br />
Along with Principals from all over the Riverina, I will be attending the Regional Principals’ Conference in<br />
Griffith next Thursday and Friday. The Minister for Education, Mr Adrian Piccoli and the Governor of<br />
NSW, Professor Marie Bashir are both special guests at the Conference. I am looking forward to hearing<br />
them both speak.<br />
WRITING SCHOOL NOTES<br />
If your child is absent, you need to write a note within seven days:<br />
1. It must explain why your child missed school<br />
2. Include how many days your child was away<br />
3. Remember to include the date or dates<br />
4. Place this in your child’s school bag<br />
5. Remind your child to give the note to the teacher<br />
6. If your child is going to be away for more than three days please call the school to let the teacher<br />
know. You will still need to write a note when your child returns to school.<br />

Commences at Glenroy Public School<br />
Wednesday 29 th August 2012<br />
This class is specifically designed for children commencing school in 2013<br />
and takes place for two hours per week in <strong>Term</strong> 3 and 4. This year the Tiny<br />
Treasures Transition Class will be held on Wednesdays from 9.00am until<br />
11.00am, commencing August 29 th .<br />
The purpose of this class is to orientate children to our school, encourage a sense of belonging and develop<br />
an understanding of what happens at ‘big school’. We also like to make the connection with new families<br />
joining our school community. Please contact the school for more details.<br />
“Lets S.T.A.M.P. Out Bullying” Wednesday 15 th August<br />
All students at Glenroy Public School will attend a performance by School Performance Tours here at our<br />
school.<br />
The title of this performance is “Lets S.T.A.M.P. Out Bullying” and looks at the school experience from a<br />
child’s perspective. “Lets S.T.A.M.P. Out Bullying” explores the journey of children through their school<br />
life and arms students with practical, easy to remember tips on taking steps to deal with bullies.<br />
The cost is $2.20 and needs to be paid by Friday <strong>10</strong> th August.<br />

SPELLING BEE<br />
All year 2 through to year 6 students have their second set of spelling words to study. They will be tested on<br />
these words on Friday. Scores received for last week’s words and the current words will be added together<br />
to help select the contestants from each year level for our Olympic Spell Off on Friday August 17 th .<br />
The Spell Off will be at 9:30 in the new hall and the children will be competing for Gold, Silver and Bronze<br />
medals. Get studying. Visitors will be most welcome.<br />

ENERGY CUBE<br />
The Primary classes are visiting the AGL Energy Cube today. Photos and factual recounts will be published<br />
next week.<br />
SPORTS NEWS<br />
The final PSSA competition is on continues until Friday August 24 th .<br />
The senior football team has their last away game this week at Scots School. Hopefully we can have another<br />
win and keep up the good form from last week that saw the team have an 8 goal win over St Pats.<br />
RIVERINA REGION ATHLETICS<br />
We have 9 students representing Albury at the Regional Athletics Sports on Friday August 31 st .<br />
Congratulation to these students and the best of luck as you compete for a spot at the State titles.<br />

P & C NEWS<br />
P & C Meeting – The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, 15 August at 7.30pm. At this meeting<br />
we will be voting on spending between $3000 and $4000 on new sports shirts. Our aim is to purchase<br />
enough shirts, of the same design, to outfit all of our sporting teams. We also plan to stock mouth guards and<br />
sports socks in the Uniform Shop. Please note that to cast a vote you will need to be a paid up financial<br />
member and that no proxy votes will be accepted.<br />
Everyone is welcome to attend these meetings. If you do have something else you would like to discuss<br />
please add it to the Agenda which is located in the Office foyer.<br />
Pie Drive – Don’t forget to pick up your pies today from the old Hall. Please bring your own<br />
bags.<br />
Earn & Learn with Safeway/Woolworths - Our tally now stands at 797 cards or 23,9<strong>10</strong><br />
stickers collected. This equates to $239,<strong>10</strong>0.00 that our families have spent on groceries since this<br />
promotion began. Please keep them coming. Mrs O’Shea and Ms McNeil can’t wait to go<br />
shopping to add some fantastic resources to the school. This promotion ends this Sunday,<br />
12 August 2012.<br />
Coles Sports for Schools – Our new total is 12,896 vouchers or $128,960.00 spent to date.<br />
Thank you to those families that have been grouping their vouchers into tens. I certainly<br />
appreciate it. This promotion finishes next Tuesday, 14 August 2012.<br />
Fete – Thank you to Tammie Doubleday and Veronica Groch for volunteering to ask their employers to<br />
donate items for the Fete. If you can help out we would really appreciate it. The more items we have to<br />
raffle, sell or use as prizes, the more successful the Fete will be. Please contact either Nicole<br />
Owens via the Canteen or myself on the number below so a letter can be organised for you.<br />

School Crossing Supervisors have an important role to fulfil; they make a substantial contribution to the<br />
safety of school children and road safety in general.<br />
Roads and Maritime Services currently has one vacant Casual Relief School Crossing Supervisor position in<br />
Albury. The position will be advertised from 25/07/2012 and the closing date for applications is <strong>10</strong>/08/2012.<br />
