Staff Development Day
Staff Development Day
The school garden is flourishing at the moment, and many students are reaping the reward of their handy
work. The garden is used by Special Interest Gardening Group, Positive Play students and 1/2R. At the
moment they have been eating strawberries, snowpeas, beans, lettuce, carrots and basil. Yesterday Garden
Interst Group made mint sauce, from the mint in the garden.
PRINCIPALS REPORT
TINY TREASURES
There were NO blackouts yesterday at the Tiny Treasures breakfast and information morning and a great
time was had by all. Thanks go to Mrs Conibear, Mrs O’Shea and the rest of the staff for organising the
morning. Thank you also to the parents who were able to attend.
STUDENT WELFARE
Staff and students are currently discussing the reward for students who reach red level of our rainbow
reward system for 2012. We will be rewarding those students who have been consistent in expected
behaviours with a special treat. Your child’s teacher will be more than happy to discuss with you aspects of
the rainbow reward system and how it seeks to reward expected behaviours.

For those students who find it difficult to operate within school expectations we have a series of
consequences:
Children who are on any level of the discipline code will not participate in out of school activities for
the duration of the level.
All exclusions must be notified to and ratified by the Principal.
In addition,
Any child who has been on level three or suspended during the term will not be able to participate in
discos or fun days, pool parties at the end of the term. Students who fall in this category will be told
of this and a note will be sent to parents /carers advising them.
Congratulations to all students who have been able to comply with our school welfare and discipline
code.
I have enclosed a copy of the School Level System for you to refer to if needed.
POOL PARTY
The Pool Party will be conducted on Monday 17 th December between 9.30am – 12.30pm.All classes will be
participating in this event. All children will be travelling by bus to Jindera Swim Centre. We will make use
of the pools to ensure that everyone has a depth suited to their confidence/swimming ability. You will be
asked to complete details outlining your child’s water confidence/swimming ability.
The school will be issuing fluorescent, colour-coded wrist bands for all students to wear for the duration of
the pool party.
Staff will be giving students reminders every half hour to apply sunscreen. Sunscreen will be made available
by the class teacher. Parents who have students with sensitive skin need to remind their children to apply
sunscreen regularly.
There are certain conditions that will need to be met before your child is allowed to participate in
this wonderful event:

they must not have been placed on level three of our discipline system or be
suspended this term.
they must have met class welfare/discipline code requirements
Each and every child must be on best behaviour.
Helpers Morning Tea
Invitations to our ‘Helpers Morning Tea’ on Thursday 6 December @ 11.15am
have been sent to all our wonderful volunteers who have supported our school in
2012. The list was very long! If for some unforeseen reason you have not received
an invitation yet please contact the front office. RSVP by phone at the front office
by 4 th December.
We are currently in the process of evaluating our new class structure for 2012. We would greatly appreciate
your input.
Please go to the school website: glenroy-p.schools.nsw.edu.au and follow the link to complete the online
survey. It is a short survey of only 10 questions which will take approximately 10 minutes. If you are unable
to complete the survey online please request a paper copy from our front office.
The results of this evaluation will help us plan for 2013. The survey will be closed on Friday 14 th December.
We thank you for your time.
NEWS FOR NORTHERN SPIRIT - WEEK 8
This newsletter is a reminder that next week all Year 6 students attending James Fallon High School will be
engaged in high school classes as part of their final orientation day, on Wednesday, 5 th December. This day is
designed to trial our class groupings and give students a very strong high school experience, with a timetable to
operate, including a variety of subjects, recesses and lunch. Students will need to wear their primary school
uniform with covered footwear, as practical classes require this. The day will commence at 9am and finish at
2:50pm. Families might like to trial the form of transport that they will be using next year. If you are dropping
off your child, please use the Duffy St entrance, as there is more room for cars there.

On Tuesday this week we had members of our Aboriginal families visit our homework centre to enjoy some
food and get to meet some of our support staff. We had a large group in attendance, and they got to see our
homework centre in operation. The school thanks the families who came and spent time with us on that
afternoon. This centre runs on Tuesday afternoon and supports all our students with facilities and teachers in
getting their homework completed.
Should you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact James Fallon High School on 0260251688.
shirts for all our PSSA teams. I am happy to announce that they are ready to be picked up and the children
should be able to wear them during the next PSSA season in 2013.
It is only through your continued support with our fundraising efforts that we are able to provide these
resources to all the children at GPS. Thank you all for that.
