Scientific Activity. GC has employed laser spectroscopy and microscopy to investigate the
structure and dynamics of proteins and DNA in vitro and in vivo. To this purpose he is using
currently Fluorescence Correlation Spectroscopy and Fluorescence Lifetime and Polarization
Anisotropy to study single proteins in cells and in inert matrices. The most recent results are on
mutants of Green Fluorescent Protein in silica gels, in polyelectrolyte Nanocapsules and in cells.
His main expertise is in time resolved and correlated fluorescence and confocal and two-photon
microscopy also with application to in-vivo studies.
Positions. 1990 Postdoc at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL), Grenoble
Outstation (France); 1991 NATO--CNR Fellowship at the European Molecular Biology
Laboratory (EMBL), Grenoble Outstation (France); 1994 Visiting Researcher at the “Deutches
KrebsForschung Zentrum” (German Cancer research center) of the Heidelberg University; 1991-
99 Researcher in Physics at the University of Milano; 1999 Visiting researcher at the
Laboaratory for Fluorescence Dynamics (LFD) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-
Champaign; 2000- 2004 Associate Professor in Physics at the university of Milano – Bicocca;
