P.A.C.T. Head Start: Doing ongoing recruitment for families, especially those with children who will be 3 before December 1, 2005. Call 298-3143. There is currently a large waiting list for Early Head Start in Macomb. Classes start on August 22 nd and August 29 th depending on the class. Rural Development: They will be holding another Homebuyer Workshop on September 8, 2005 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Macomb City Hall. Featured Speakers: Nicki Morgan, USDA Rural Development, Ron Riggins, Eagle Mortgage, Becky Peabody, Remax, and Rob Westen, Hayes Appraisals. A light meal will be served. North Central Behavioral Health: Jennifer Lee – new case manager McDonough County Health Department: Hosting a Baby Shower for all new and expecting mothers from 2-4 p.m. on August 5 th . This is in honor of their 30 th Anniversary and Breast Feeding Awareness Week. There will be door prizes, refreshments, and gift bags. Marci Roberts – Working on the restructuring of the volunteer program at the Health Department McDonough County Even Start – We have moved: 339 South Johnson Street. Still providing GED preparation and child care, but no more lunch. (309) 836-5775. Still taking any referrals for families with children under 8. Nicole is the new GED teacher at Even Start. McDonough County Housing Authority: Kathy Millard is the new Resident Services Manager for the Housing Authority, taking over for Janice Whitfield. Kathy is very excited to be with the McDonough County Housing Authority. She looks forward to working with each of the Interagency Council Members in this capacity. Adopted new policies for college students who are head of household. Must be classified as an independent student as with applying with federal aid. If not independent (parents claim them for their taxes), they are not eligible for housing assistance. HUD did not push this, it was a local policy, but then it did change this spring officially by the state. They then asked the Housing Authorities to adopt this policy. Eisenhower Tower will be most affected by this policy change. Catholic Charities: The Catholic Charities board is currently taking donations for a school supply donation programs. Spoon River College: Getting ready for classes starting August 22 nd – registration has begun. Not only for GED eligible but those people who have a low reading level.
WIA – Summer Youth Program in place, going smoothly. Adults interested in classroom training, 837-1280 and talk with Kay Dodd for enrollment. Still doing Job Club on Tuesdays from 9:30-11:00. Open for referrals from agencies for those who need assistance for job searching. WICIL – Presents the 15 th Anniversary Celebration of the Americans with Disabilities Act. There will be representatives from 20 area human service agencies, free refreshments, ADA Dan Wachtel Awards, and an American Red Cross Blood Drive. It is Tuesday, July 26 th in Washington Park in Quincy from 10 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Also selling: Raffle tickets – 3 tickets for $5.00 Pizza Coupons - $10.00 for Dominoes (you get a card that entitles you to 20 free pizza when you purchase a pizza of equal or lesser value). American Red Cross McDonough County Chapter: CPR and First Aid classes are once a month. WIU is have a Fair for new students on August 24 th from 3-5 at the Union and then that Friday from 4-6 (smaller version). This fair is to find volunteers for your agencies.
