<strong>Vidyapeetha</strong> organized a 5 day National workshop in<br />

colaboration with Department of OR & SQC, Rayalaseema University,<br />

Kurnool, AP on Ancient lndian Mathematics during February,2012,<br />

funded by Department of Science and Technology. About 100<br />

participants from diflerent parts of the India attended the workshop<br />

and listened to the inspiring presentations of well known researchers<br />

and scholars in Ancient Indian Mathematics. The DST appreciated the<br />

programme and encouragementhat the department received from<br />

the Vice-Chancellor has been exemplary. The DST is pleased to<br />

grant funds to enable the department of Maths RSVP to organize<br />

another workshop on Ancient lndian Mathematics. The second<br />

workshop is designed for 5 days from 24-28, February 2012.<br />

AIMS & OBJECTIVES OF THE WORK.SHOP<br />

-. To enable ihe faculty members, young research scholars and<br />

Post-Graduate students to get an exposure to the glorious<br />

achievements of ourAncient Indian Mathematics and scientists.<br />

-, To motivate the interested researchers to take up furlher studv<br />

of rich field of Ancient Indian Mathematics<br />

= To correlate the ancieni Indian thought through modern concepts<br />

wherever Dossible<br />

To develop soft wares in Ancient Indian Mathematics and<br />

reference maierial<br />

To bring together some of the reputed scholars in Ancient<br />

Indian Mathematics to initiate discussions and further studies.<br />

INAUGURATION<br />

The five day National Workshop onAncient lndian Mathematics<br />

began on a scintillating note with Vedic prayer while the inauguration<br />

session was graced by Prof. HarekrishnaSatapathy, the vice<br />

chancellor of <strong>Vidyapeetha</strong>, the President, Padmavibhusan Prof C.R.<br />

Rao as the disguised guest , Prof. K. Krishna Naik, Vice Chancellor of<br />

Rayalseema University, Kurnool as the chief guest, Prof. P.V.<br />

Arunachalam, former vice chancellor as Guest of honour . After<br />

inauguration of the workshop the first technical session commenced<br />

with the lecture delivered by Prof P.V. Arunachalam on "Arybhata -<br />

Outline of his life and Mathematics". The second session was graced<br />

by Prof G.N. Das, former vice chancellor of Utkal University, who<br />

spoke on "Doctrine of KHA HARA". In the oost lunch session Prof<br />

Ramsubramaniam of llT Bombay, delivered a lecture on Magic<br />

Squaresfollowed by a lecture by Dr. PrakhyaSatyanarayan Sarma on<br />

Geomerty in Sulbasutra .<br />

The inauguration of the workshop which synchronized with the<br />

<strong>Vidyapeetha</strong>'s 15h Convocation in which Padmavibhushan Prof C.R.<br />

Rao delivered the key note address on Ancient Wisdam<br />

andModernScience. Hon'ble Chancellor of vidyapeetha and<br />

HisExcellency the Governor of Assam, Pragnanavachaspathe Dr.<br />

J.B.Patnaik preside overthe convocation and awarded Honoris Causa<br />

the degree of Vachaspathi(D.Litt) to Dr. C. R. Rao.<br />
