• The Royal Scientific Society is <strong>in</strong>volved <strong>in</strong> quality m<strong>on</strong>itor<strong>in</strong>g <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> water and<br />
wastewater through its Envir<strong>on</strong>mental <str<strong>on</strong>g>Research</str<strong>on</strong>g> Center. It also hosts the<br />
Envir<strong>on</strong>ment M<strong>on</strong>itor<strong>in</strong>g and <str<strong>on</strong>g>Research</str<strong>on</strong>g> Central Unit (EMARCU), which aims at<br />
collect<strong>in</strong>g water quality data from real-time <strong>in</strong>puts and from nati<strong>on</strong>al water<br />
quality laboratories. Their Build<strong>in</strong>g <str<strong>on</strong>g>Research</str<strong>on</strong>g> Center works <strong>on</strong> develop<strong>in</strong>g and<br />
amend<strong>in</strong>g build<strong>in</strong>g codes <strong>in</strong> which water and wastewater collecti<strong>on</strong> systems<br />
can be <strong>in</strong>corporated <strong>in</strong> service <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> household reuse <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> greywater.<br />
• Center for the Study <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Built Envir<strong>on</strong>ment (CSBE), a private, n<strong>on</strong>-pr<str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g>it, research<br />
<strong>in</strong>stituti<strong>on</strong> based <strong>in</strong> Jordan, active <strong>in</strong> address<strong>in</strong>g the challenges that Jordan<br />
is fac<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> its built envir<strong>on</strong>ment. CSBE has implemented a greywater reuse<br />
project funded through a grant from the M<strong>in</strong>istry <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Plann<strong>in</strong>g and Internati<strong>on</strong>al<br />
Cooperati<strong>on</strong>’s Enhanced Productivity Program with additi<strong>on</strong>al fund<strong>in</strong>g from<br />
the British Embassy. As part <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> its greywater reuse project, the CSBE developed<br />
prelim<strong>in</strong>ary guidel<strong>in</strong>es for us<strong>in</strong>g greywater for irrigati<strong>on</strong> and compiled a list <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />
plants that could be irrigated with greywater. The guidel<strong>in</strong>es thus developed are<br />
available <strong>in</strong> Arabic and English <strong>on</strong> the CSBE website (www.csbe.org).<br />
• Water and Envir<strong>on</strong>ment <str<strong>on</strong>g>Research</str<strong>on</strong>g> and Study Center at the University <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Jordan<br />
c<strong>on</strong>ducts scientific research for purposes <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> manag<strong>in</strong>g and protect<strong>in</strong>g Jordan’s<br />
water resources and their envir<strong>on</strong>ment. It aims to transfer knowledge and<br />
technology and develop soluti<strong>on</strong>s that are tailored to Jordan’s c<strong>on</strong>diti<strong>on</strong>s. The<br />
center has several research projects <strong>on</strong> technologies for treatment <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> wastewater<br />
and its reuse <strong>in</strong> irrigati<strong>on</strong>.<br />
D. N<strong>on</strong>-governmental organizati<strong>on</strong>s and community based organizati<strong>on</strong>s, which,<br />
despite their limited experience with implement<strong>in</strong>g greywater reuse projects, have<br />
c<strong>on</strong>siderable experience <strong>in</strong> work<strong>in</strong>g with local communities <strong>in</strong> urban, peri-urban,<br />
and rural areas <strong>in</strong> projects related to envir<strong>on</strong>mental awareness and work<strong>in</strong>g with<br />
local communities to improve envir<strong>on</strong>mental quality and susta<strong>in</strong>ability:<br />
• Royal Society for the C<strong>on</strong>servati<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Nature, (RSCN), is mandated by law to<br />
establish and manage nature reserves. As part <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> reserves management, the<br />
RSCN works closely with communities <strong>in</strong> areas surround<strong>in</strong>g the reserves and<br />
helps them develop and implement <strong>in</strong>come generat<strong>in</strong>g projects <strong>in</strong> a susta<strong>in</strong>able<br />
manner.<br />
• Jordan Envir<strong>on</strong>ment Society has been active <strong>in</strong> envir<strong>on</strong>mental campaign<strong>in</strong>g and<br />
they have participated <strong>in</strong> a number <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> envir<strong>on</strong>mental advocacy campaigns.<br />
• Jordan Badia <str<strong>on</strong>g>Research</str<strong>on</strong>g> and Development Center has been <strong>in</strong>volved <strong>in</strong> a water<br />
reuse pilot project <strong>in</strong> Wadi Musa, near Petra <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> the Shobak district.
