International Volunteer-Program
Information for Counterparts
Our Mission
We, the Arbeitsstelle Soziale Dienste (Bureau for Social and Voluntary Services) in the
Catholic Diocese of Limburg (Germany) are organising Voluntary Services for young people
between 16 and 28 years of age, which completed their school-career and like to engage
themselves as volunteers in social fields and church projects for a period of between 6
weeks to 1 year.
The International Volunteer Program
Beside and additional to our national volunteer services within Germany (e.g. Freiwilliges
Soziales Jahr), which are utilised by about 500 young adults each year, we are running an
international Volunteer-Program.
This Volunteer-Program is a 12 month lasting service, which is completed and prepared by
seminars (culture, geography, history and politics of host-country), trainings, workshops and
language-courses in Germany.
We are sending out about 10 persons – aged 18 to 25 – each year in developing countries
worldwide (with a focus on African countries).
We are always looking for new local partners with projects in areas as churchcommunity-services,
social-work, educational-services, orphan-projects, work with
elderly and handicapped people etc.
Aims
We understand this Volunteer Program as an international social peace service. We want to
open rooms and offer chances for young Christians to engage themselves internationally in
order to take responsibility for others and take part in the fight for global solidarity; as well as
to create the possibility of personal growth and development, while working with people from
other nations and cultures and in different living situations than the volunteers themselves.
That means, that we offer a social learning service, which contributes to the communication
between individuals, groups, and peoples.

Finances
Usually we cover the flight, workshops, training, etc. The pocket-money will be covered by a
support-group (that has to be build up by the volunteer him-/herself in Germany).
We ask our local partners and projects to cover the accommodation expenses (or
organise an accommodation in a local hostel etc.) and - if possible – pay for the food
expenses.
Anyway, if there is too limited resources to do so, we might be able to find other funding
solutions.
