GUIDELINES FOR WAIVER OF FULL<br />
COST OF INSTRUCTION<br />
Guidelines for Completion <strong>of</strong> Request Form and Supporting Documents<br />
A full cost <strong>of</strong> instruction fee is the amount, exclusive <strong>of</strong> state funding, established by <strong>Valencia</strong> to<br />
pay all costs associated with teaching a course. This fee is effective for certain repeat enrollments<br />
at <strong>Valencia</strong> <strong>College</strong> after July 1997.<br />
In accordance with Sections 1009.22, 1004.93, 1009.28, and 1009.285, Florida Statutes, students<br />
enrolled in the same college-preparatory or college-level course at <strong>Valencia</strong> more than two times<br />
beginning Fall Term 1997 shall pay the full cost (100%) <strong>of</strong> instruction fee except in approved<br />
cases <strong>of</strong> extenuating circumstances or financial hardship. If you have been charged the full cost<br />
<strong>of</strong> instruction based on the number <strong>of</strong> attempts in a specific course you must pay the fees<br />
associated with the registration. Appeals will be granted only based on stringent criteria. The<br />
following list <strong>of</strong> guidelines is designed to help you in this process.<br />
● Pay the <strong>Full</strong> <strong>Cost</strong> <strong>of</strong> Instruction registration fees for the term (you must be<br />
enrolled in the course before requesting a waiver). If you do not pay your account<br />
balance by fee payment deadline, you will be deleted from your courses.<br />
● Complete one Waiver <strong>of</strong> <strong>Full</strong> <strong>Cost</strong> <strong>of</strong> Instruction request form for each<br />
course.<br />
● Submit documentation <strong>of</strong> your current extenuating circumstance or financial<br />
hardship. Justification should focus on current circumstances that clearly<br />
describe reasons for the financial hardship and extenuating circumstances. In<br />
addition, please describe in detail the circumstances that prevented you from<br />
successfully completing the course during your first two or subsequent attempts. Please<br />
provide detailed documentation if available. Documentation to support financial<br />
hardship should include income (i.e., pay stub, tax return, etv.) and pro<strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong> living<br />
expenses (i.e., rent/mortgage expense, utility bills, other monthly bills such as<br />
credit card, car payments, etc.).<br />
● Timeliness in submitting the request form is important, as it will take between<br />
2 - 4 weeks for the process to be completed.<br />
● Submit the completed form(s) and supporting documentation to the Answer<br />
Center on a <strong>Valencia</strong> campus. The deadline to submit a waiver request for Fall <strong>Full</strong><br />
Term is Monday, Aug 27. Please see the Academic Calendar for Flex Start deadlines.<br />

● You will be notified <strong>of</strong> the decision via Atlas e-mail within 4 weeks.<br />
● Decision <strong>of</strong> the committee is final.

Attach letter describing in detail (1) the circumstances that prevented you from<br />
successfully completing the course during your first two or subsequent attempts, (2) a<br />
plan for success in your third attempt, and (3) the reason for your current financial<br />
hardship<br />
Attach all financial documentation to include:<br />
o Verification (copies) <strong>of</strong> income (i.e., pay stubs, Federal Tax return, pro<strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong> any<br />
Federal or State assistance/aid, etc.)<br />
o Verification (copies) <strong>of</strong> all monthly expenses (i.e, rent/ mortgage, utilities, car<br />
payments/insurance, credit card, etc.)<br />
Submit all above requirements prior to the deadline stated in the Guidelines<br />
All documentation should be turned in at the same time.<br />

committee can deny my request based solely on insufficient information. The decision <strong>of</strong> the<br />

This form and all required documents must be submitted to the Answer Center on a <strong>Valencia</strong> campus by<br />
Aug 27 for Fall <strong>Full</strong> Term courses. Please see the Academic Calendar for Flex Start deadlines. The<br />
