• Excellence in Volunteer Management
- a range of training and support from
Volunteering England. The support
on offer varies, check the website
or contact Volunteering England

• Sports Coach UK - is a charitable
organisation dedicated to the
development and implementation of
coaches and coaching throughout
the UK. It acts as the training agency
for sport coaches, running a full range of
workshops and courses from beginner
coach right up to national coach. See

• Sports Leaders UK - (formerly the
British Sports Trust) aims to inspire
people and communities through
leadership qualifications in sport.

• SkillsActive - is the Sector Skills Council
for Active Leisure and Learning. It has its
own skills maps for people in different
sport roles - www.skillsactive.com.
National Occupational Standards for
volunteering have now been approved
- to see these go to www.vsnto.org.uk
• Running Sports - this programme is
made up of workshops, booklets,
and home study packs which advise
on almost all aspects of managing,
developing and administering your club.
Most of these are available at a small

- many of which run their own, specially

• FE Colleges - that can offer accredited
learning in most key sport roles. These
training courses can lead to paid
employment or simply enhance the
skill of existing volunteer managers.

these run accredited higher level
courses like degrees and diplomas
that are closely linked to employment
opportunities. Many also include
sport work placements or sport
volunteering opportunities too.
