THE FIRST GENUINE SHOPPING MALL OPENED IN SERBIA IN NOVI BEOGRAD<br />

<strong>Welcome</strong> <strong>to</strong> <strong>Delta</strong> <strong>City</strong><br />

<strong>Delta</strong> <strong>City</strong>, the first real shopping mall in Serbia,<br />

was formally opened in the presence of a large<br />

number of guests on 31 Oc<strong>to</strong>ber, after long expectations<br />

of the public, and received its first cus<strong>to</strong>mers<br />

on 1 November. The interest of the public was<br />

enormous and only in the first 15 days this true<br />

miniature city was visited by 700,000 people.<br />

With its 130 s<strong>to</strong>res and moreover with a completely<br />

new concept of shopping and entertainment, <strong>Delta</strong><br />

<strong>City</strong> proved at the very beginning that it will be<br />

something really new, not just for Belgrade but also<br />

for the whole Serbia.<br />

“After the opening of <strong>Delta</strong> <strong>City</strong> we plan <strong>to</strong> build<br />

similar facilities in the region as well. A shopping<br />

mall in Podgorica will be completed in May 2008,<br />

and the construction of a new one will start in Banja<br />

Luka before the end of the same year. We currently<br />

have serious negotiations about the construction<br />

of such facilities in Zagreb, Skopje, Tirana,<br />

Sofia, Bucurest and Kiev”, said Mr. Miroslav<br />

Mišković, the President of <strong>Delta</strong> <strong>Holding</strong> at the formal<br />

opening. He added that other two shopping<br />

malls would be built in Belgrade, one in Novi Sad<br />

and one in Niš.<br />

“<strong>Delta</strong> has the personnel and financial potential <strong>to</strong><br />

realize such projects”, pointed out the President of<br />

<strong>Delta</strong> <strong>Holding</strong> while expressing his expectations<br />

that such investments will stimulate domestic civil<br />

engineering, contribute <strong>to</strong> the opening of new companies,<br />

and increase the number of jobs in this<br />

field.<br />

Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Božidar Đelić said<br />

that the Serbian Government expected <strong>Delta</strong> <strong>Holding</strong><br />

<strong>to</strong> be the “ice-breaker” in the region and thus<br />

help the domestic building industry and producers<br />

<strong>to</strong> get in<strong>to</strong> the foreign markets.<br />

“I hope that <strong>Delta</strong> will be the first private company<br />

in Serbia that will be present in the domestic and<br />

foreign exchange markets, that it will create the<br />

best personnel and a reputable Belgrade school of<br />

business <strong>to</strong>gether with other companies” Božidar<br />

BULGARIAN RETAIL STORES CHAIN PICCADILLY BECAME A PART OF OUR BUSINESS SYSTEM<br />

<strong>Delta</strong> Maxi in European Union<br />

<strong>Delta</strong> Maxi Company entered the market of the European Union in<br />

great style. From the beginnning of September, a newcomer joined<br />

the <strong>Delta</strong> retail operation - Bulgarian retail s<strong>to</strong>res chain Piccadilly,<br />

the second largest in this country which is a full EU member.<br />

So <strong>Delta</strong> Maxi continued the announced expansion <strong>to</strong> the markets<br />

within the region: only several months before, <strong>Delta</strong> Maxi included<br />

Tropic of Banja Luka in its system, and at the end of November first<br />

supermarkets in Montenegro have opened.<br />

Piccadilly represents a modern retail network of supermarkets featuring<br />

a high level of service and large range of products. At present it<br />

has a 15% market share in Bulgaria. During 12 years of existence the<br />

Piccadilly network extended its operation <strong>to</strong> four cities (Sofia, Varna,<br />

Burgas and Veliko Trnovo) in which there are 11 supermarkets, with<br />

average area of 3.000m².<br />

Piccadilly with 1.700 employees in 2007 plans a turnover of about 110<br />

million Eur.<br />

Maxi in the region<br />

<strong>Delta</strong> Maxi and Piccadilly will keep developing the retail network<br />

throughout Bulgaria with a target <strong>to</strong> open in the forthcoming period<br />

about 20 new sales facilities and <strong>to</strong> significantly increase the market<br />

share <strong>to</strong> 20 - 25%. One hypermarket will be opened <strong>to</strong>o, with an area<br />

of between 10,000 and 12,000m², under the name Piccadilly Extra.<br />

Development of the corner shop concept is planned, called Piccadilly<br />

Express, as well as opening of a soft discount Tempo. Only in the<br />

next two years <strong>Delta</strong> Maxi will invest 70 million Eur in<strong>to</strong> development<br />

of Piccadilly, creating in that way 1,000 new jobs.<br />

„Contract on buying the Piccadilly chain is of a great importance not<br />

only for these two companies, but for Serbian and Bulgarian economy<br />

as a whole. <strong>Delta</strong> Maxi will represent a strong support and an opportunity<br />

for placement of products from Serbia, as very few products<br />

of Serbian suppliers can be seen on shelves of Piccadilly and of other<br />

Bulgarian retail chains “, said <strong>Delta</strong> Maxi General Manager, Dragan<br />

Filipović, i Sofia at the time of signing the contract.<br />

Entering new market brought new cus<strong>to</strong>mers’ habits <strong>to</strong>o. Adjusting<br />

<strong>to</strong> European work hours from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m, Bulgarians generally<br />

shop on Sundays. In view of such pace of living and working,<br />

they rarely cook meals at home, more and more frequiently they buy<br />

prepared meals in markets. With its offer in that segment, Piccadilly<br />

is way ahead of competition.<br />

In our daily contacts with Bulgarian businessmen we would like <strong>to</strong><br />

promote Serbia, Serbian economy, products and culture. At the end<br />

of Oc<strong>to</strong>ber we organized presentation <strong>Delta</strong> Maxi in which a great<br />

interest was shown. With the agreement with our embassy we also<br />

organized a Serbian stand at the ‘Embassies’ Bazaar’. In addition<br />

Full of Good Spirits<br />

„Fill yourself with good spirits“ says, in translation, the slogan of Piccadilly,<br />

a host <strong>to</strong> a group of journalists from Serbia, who visited this<br />

retail chain at the end of Oc<strong>to</strong>ber. Anywhere they looked, the representatives<br />

of Serbian media could see that this statement is true.<br />

Shopping at Piccadilly is a holiday for eyes, but means also a saving<br />

for the buyer’s pocket.<br />

Established in 1994, Piccadilly is an innova<strong>to</strong>r in Bulgarian market, in<br />

many areas of business. They were first <strong>to</strong> introduce bar-code readers,<br />

advertising brochures, standards ISO 9001, ISO 14000 and HACCP.<br />

First loyality cards appeared in their own establishments. At present<br />

they have about 170,000 members who account for 32% of consumers<br />

and in <strong>to</strong>tal turnover of the company they participate with 65%.<br />

An average Piccadilly supermarket has the area of 3,000m², and the<br />

largest number of products is 19,000. In the framework of development<br />

New non carbonated mineral water Aqua Gala entered domestic market in great style. The first<br />

product of the „Mioni“ fac<strong>to</strong>ry appeared in s<strong>to</strong>res end August, and its convincing and attractive<br />

campaign brought it a large number of consumers.<br />

The „Mioni“ fac<strong>to</strong>ry is situated on the slopes of the Divčibare Mount, it was solemnly released at<br />

the beginning of September. Filling plant was started by a symbolic pressure on the but<strong>to</strong>n by<br />

Mlađan Dinkić, Minister of Economy and Regional Development in the Serbian Government.<br />

An attractive marketing campaign was marked by a spot with the main promoter, tennis champion,<br />

Novak Đoković. The Association of Economic Propagandists of Serbia UEPS considersregards<br />

this spot as the best video of summer 2007. A special award was given <strong>to</strong> Vice President of<br />

<strong>Delta</strong> <strong>Holding</strong>, Milka Forcan and spot direc<strong>to</strong>r Igor Kušić.<br />

Aqua Gala was presented officially also at the Waters Fair „Aqus Expo 2007“, which <strong>to</strong>ok place<br />

in Oc<strong>to</strong>ber at the Belgrade Hall „Expo“.<br />

DELTA MAXI COMPANY AWARDED ISO 9001 AND HACCP<br />

European Standards Also in Our Market<br />

On 2 Oc<strong>to</strong>ber <strong>Delta</strong> Maxi Company, was awarded the Certificate for<br />

Quality Management System according <strong>to</strong> standards ISO 9001 and<br />

HACCP. To General Manager of <strong>Delta</strong> Maxi Dragan Filipović the Certificate<br />

was ceremoniously handed by Fridrich Khuen Belesi, Deputy<br />

General Manager and member of the Managing Board of Austria.<br />

That system defines the management of processes, and its introduction<br />

is intended <strong>to</strong> promote the operation within the company and<br />

cooperation with clients, as well as <strong>to</strong> moni<strong>to</strong>r users’ opinions. The<br />

system precisely defines the procedures, lines of communication and<br />

standards of operation, in order <strong>to</strong> synchronise in the best possible<br />

way the action of different sections within the company at the same<br />

time providing for unity in decision taking. Introduction and implementation<br />

of HACCP, as an integrated part of the quality management<br />

system enables <strong>Delta</strong> Maxi Company <strong>to</strong> offer <strong>to</strong> its clients the products<br />

which are correct heath-wise and whose quality is constant.<br />

„Our strategic aim is <strong>to</strong> be leaders in retail sales in the Balkans, and<br />

in the whole South East Europe. In line with such a strategy is introduction<br />

of the quality management system, which all leading European<br />

retail chains have“, said <strong>Delta</strong> Maxi General Manager Dragan<br />

Filipović.<br />

“HACCP is particularly important for the reason that it provides protection<br />

of food through a complete process of supply, from the production,<br />

through s<strong>to</strong>ring and retail sale, all the way <strong>to</strong> consumption.<br />

For the purpose of protecting cus<strong>to</strong>mers, we made a team of internal<br />

controllers who will visit suppliers and check whether the standards<br />

are implemented in practice. The certificate awarded is <strong>to</strong> be earned<br />

Support of the Ministry of Agriculture<br />

Attending the solemn act of handing over the Certificate were also<br />

the Minister of Agriculture, Water Management and Forestry, Slobodan<br />

Milosavljević, who on that occasion said: “Introduction and<br />

implementation of this system are of great importance for Serbian<br />

agriculture and economy, as without such standards there is no improvement<br />

of quality of life or growth of the economic impact of our<br />

country, in which <strong>Delta</strong> has a decisive role.<br />

I sincerely hope that expansion of <strong>Delta</strong> in the region will intensify,<br />

and that involvement of the company in agricultural business and<br />

rendering of services will grow stronger. I think this is the best and<br />

quickest road <strong>to</strong> European ways and integrations, and at the same<br />

time a good example of how <strong>to</strong> get closer <strong>to</strong> joining the European<br />

Union“, Minister Milosavljević underlined.<br />

Of importance of adopting the mentioned standards spoke Fridrich<br />

Khuen Belesi and Nadežda Grujić of Biolab Consulting. Khuen Belesi<br />

underlined that among numerous clients of Quality Austria, <strong>Delta</strong><br />

Maxi is the first retail chain <strong>to</strong> introduce these standards. Nadežda<br />

Grujić added that even on European scale it is very rare <strong>to</strong> find such<br />

a large company that was quick <strong>to</strong> understand the complexity of the<br />

system and define its target.<br />

The quality management system according <strong>to</strong> standards ISO 9001<br />

and HACCP has been introduced by <strong>Delta</strong> Maxi and Pekabeta, while<br />

certification of C Market will be done in November 2008.<br />

The activities of the <strong>Delta</strong> Fund are directed primarily <strong>to</strong>wards upgrading<br />

of humanitarian work and developing the consciusness of<br />

social responsibility, which in pratice implies investing in<strong>to</strong> lasting<br />

social, health related, educational and cultural values.

<strong>Delta</strong> Plus Beyond<br />

All Expectations<br />

In less than eight months the first Serbian Investment Fund „<strong>Delta</strong><br />

Plus“ got a vote of confidence from more than 3.000 citizens and<br />

enterprises operating on our country. The Fund’s assets increased<br />

from the initial 200,000 Eur <strong>to</strong> about 24 million Eur, which is above<br />

all expectations.<br />

A value of the investment unit of „<strong>Delta</strong> Plus“ Fund at the beginning<br />

of operation was 1,000 dinars, only <strong>to</strong> reach 1,400.05 dinars by 31<br />

Oc<strong>to</strong>ber of this year. For inves<strong>to</strong>rs who at that time invested in<strong>to</strong> this<br />

Fund it meant an earning of 40 percent – the invested 10,000 Eur<br />

had a yield of above 4,000 Eur.<br />

Additional confidence has been earned also because „<strong>Delta</strong> Plus“ is<br />

are moni<strong>to</strong>red at the listing of „Bloomberg“, a leading world company<br />

for media reporting on movements in the financial market. Listing<br />

of the „<strong>Delta</strong> Plus“ Fond on this reputed world portal points <strong>to</strong><br />

Early last summer „<strong>Delta</strong> Plus“ started <strong>to</strong> invest in<strong>to</strong> foreign capital<br />

75% of its assets in<strong>to</strong> the shares quoted at the Belgrade S<strong>to</strong>ck Exchange<br />

and s<strong>to</strong>ck exchanges within the region. In so doing, „<strong>Delta</strong><br />

Investments“ will be the first company managing two funds in home<br />

market, and having a larger and more diversified offer for its present<br />

With an aim <strong>to</strong> offer a prospect of investment <strong>to</strong> as many citizens<br />

quality training <strong>to</strong> take over the managerial jobs on the farms in<br />

Stara Pazova and Zaječar, in the Nucleus Centre and Centre for Artificial<br />

ONE YEAR OF THE FIRST PRIVATE PENSION FUND IN SERBIA<br />

Successful Beginning<br />

Generali Group of Trieste hosted early in November a group of Belgrade<br />

journalists. In the beautiful surroundings of the Generali Insurance<br />

building, which was built in 1831, the journalists were received<br />

by Valter Trevizani, Deputy General Manager of the Generali<br />

Group. Talking with the media he particularly underlined his satisfaction<br />

with a good cooperation with <strong>Delta</strong> Generali Insurance as an<br />

ideal partner with exceptionally capable management.<br />

“Serbia is one of the most interesting markets in Central and Eastern<br />

Europe, characterized by a speedy economic development, and Assicurazioni<br />

<strong>Delta</strong> Generali<br />

<strong>Delta</strong> Generali Voluntary Pension Fund, the first private pension fund in Serbia, marked one year from the beginning of its operation. In the<br />

first year of “saving for pension with a force of a winged lion” the value of investment unit increased by more than 20 percent, value of fund<br />

assets reached 554 million dinars, and confidence <strong>to</strong> the first private pension fund in the country was demonstrated by more than 35.000<br />

members. <strong>Delta</strong> Generali Voluntary Pension Fund extended its business network which now includes 32 cities throughout Serbia, and provided<br />

117 jobs. According <strong>to</strong> all business parameters <strong>Delta</strong> Generali Voluntary Pension Fund is among leaders in the market.<br />

Compared <strong>to</strong> others, this fund was joined by the largest number of employees from enterprises and institutions whose employers pay voluntary<br />

Opened in Podgorica and Bar<br />

Opening of <strong>Delta</strong> Maxi’s prior structures in Montenegro has been<br />

distinguished by the ranks in the early morning and unremebered<br />

crowd. Maxi’s supermarkets in Podgorica and Bar started working<br />

on Saturday, November 24th. On the opening day there were special<br />

price cuts up <strong>to</strong> 50% for <strong>to</strong>p products, many promotions and valuable<br />

gifts prepared.<br />

Supermarket in Bar is situated on 1,300 sq.m. His range has more<br />

than 8,000 articles of all domestic and foreign producers. There are<br />

35 employees at the structure.<br />

Maxi’s Supermarket in Podgorica, placed in the centre of the city<br />

across Sahat kula, has 1,000 sq.m. with the range of more than 5,500<br />

articles. This structure employs 50 workers.<br />

next year Maxi will also be present in the other cities of Montenegro.<br />

was built- in the <strong>Delta</strong> <strong>City</strong> shopping mall.<br />

A system of 17 kilometres long pipeline was<br />

built in for heating and installation, and all<br />

power and telecommunications cables are<br />

about 250 kilometres long.<br />

This facility was built by 52 companies, of<br />

which 49 domestic and three foreign contrac<strong>to</strong>rs.<br />

The <strong>Delta</strong> <strong>City</strong> Shopping mall was built in the record amount of time - 18<br />

months. The conceptual design for the facility was made by a well-known<br />

Israeli-Canadian company Moore Architects. It has three levels, an underground<br />

and ground garage with 1,200 parking places and the <strong>to</strong>tal<br />

area of 85,000m2 which is equal <strong>to</strong> the surface area of 15 football fields.<br />

The leading world and domestic brands have rented s<strong>to</strong>res of <strong>to</strong>tal area of<br />

30,000m2 . A special quality of this shopping mall is that one-third of the<br />

brands are present in the Serbian market for the first time.<br />

The amusement facilities – cineplex, bowling and children’s play centre,<br />

confirm that every shopping segment and the satisfaction of all cus<strong>to</strong>mers<br />

requirements have been taken care of. Many restaurants offer meals<br />

from different world cuisines for refreshment after shopping and entertainment.<br />

The fact that <strong>Delta</strong> <strong>City</strong> can accommodate up <strong>to</strong> 200,000 visi<strong>to</strong>rs at one<br />

time reflects the size of this shopping mall.<br />

The first <strong>Delta</strong> Hypermarket under the name Super Maxi, surface area of 5,000 m2, is opened within<br />

the shopping mall. It is a Hypermarket with the state-of-the-art interior design and furnishing. The<br />

areas of the bakery, green market, convenience food, fishmarket, wine seller, perfume shop and technical<br />

items contain the most exclusive range of the products with more than 26,000 items. The cus<strong>to</strong>mers<br />

can pay their goods at 23 cash registers. Super Maxi has 190 employees.<br />

More than 10,000 consumers visited the new Hypermarket on the day of its opening. Prices for approximately<br />

40 products were cut even up <strong>to</strong> 50% and 15 promotions and tastings of various products<br />

After summer spent on vacation<br />

their regular activities.<br />

A summer camp for the<br />

protégés of the Fund was<br />

organised in Greece at the<br />

end of July. During the<br />

summer holiday in the Nikiti,<br />

Chalkidiki, fifty-three<br />

children participated in<br />

the sports and educational<br />

workshops, cruised around Mount Athos, and on their way back the<br />

<strong>Delta</strong> scholars visited the Serbian graveyard Zejtinlik in Thessaloniki.<br />

Aid for Mothers<br />

As of 15 November all women employed in <strong>Delta</strong> <strong>Holding</strong> shall receive<br />

an one-time aid after childbirth.<br />

For the first born (or the adopted) child a mother employed in the<br />

<strong>Delta</strong> Business System shall receive aid of 250 Euros, for the second<br />

child 500 Euros and for the third child 1,000 Euros.<br />

In the meantime, two of the thirteen young protégés without parental<br />

care, who completed <strong>Delta</strong> programme got a permanent job in our<br />

profit centre <strong>Delta</strong> DMD, while five successfully passed the selection<br />

and are about <strong>to</strong> start working within the <strong>Delta</strong> Business System.<br />

In Oc<strong>to</strong>ber, the protégés got familiar with the work system in <strong>Delta</strong><br />

Sport. For the young visi<strong>to</strong>rs the career of one of the employees who<br />

started working within the Company as a seller and is now at the position<br />

of the Regional Manager for the Nike programme, was the most<br />

impressive.<br />

A number of scholars expressed their wish <strong>to</strong> start working as the<br />

Youth Association members in one of the <strong>Delta</strong> Sport facilities during<br />

the winter holiday.<br />

For the children who are still in the programme Fund for the Future<br />

the next activity will be a visit <strong>to</strong> the fac<strong>to</strong>ries Juhor in Jagodina and<br />

Danubius in Novi Sad.<br />

New Standards in Quality Management<br />

<strong>Delta</strong> DMD, whose cus<strong>to</strong>mers traditionally expect products and services of quality, is continuing <strong>to</strong> improve its business processes in conformance<br />

with the approach that improvement in quality is the best development strategy. <strong>Delta</strong> DMD introduced an integrated quality management<br />

system in July, according <strong>to</strong> the Standards JUS ISO 9001:2001 and HACCP system.<br />

TÜV Bayern Sava d.o.o (TÜV SÜD Management Service Munich), an authorised organisation for quality assurance, performed the certification.<br />

Costa Coffee Prize<br />

On the International Costa Coffee Conference held in Dubai at the<br />

beginning of November, <strong>Delta</strong> Sport was awarded the International<br />

prize for launching and positioning the brand on Serbian market.<br />

When awarding the prize <strong>to</strong> the CEO of <strong>Delta</strong> Sport, Mr. Goran S.<br />

Karić, the representatives of Costa Coffee pointed out that <strong>Delta</strong><br />

Sport, as the franchise partner, broke all records in opening attractive<br />

locations for new coffee shops and in positioning the Costa Coffee<br />

The Biggest LED Display in the Region<br />

Mid June <strong>Delta</strong> Star Group bought from the American manufacturer<br />

of the LED (Light Emmiting Diodes) technology, Daktronics, the last<br />

generation of multimedial outdoor LED displays and related equipment<br />

in the value of more than half million Eur. By number of installations<br />

of outdoor LED displays in the world Daktronics Company is<br />

a leader in this technology with 21% share of world market.<br />

Of <strong>to</strong>tal 54m2 of LED displays, 34m2 was installed in Oc<strong>to</strong>ber on the<br />

façade of shopping mall <strong>Delta</strong> <strong>City</strong> above the panoramic eleva<strong>to</strong>r, and<br />

20m2 is planned for fixed renting.<br />

LED display, mounted on the <strong>Delta</strong> <strong>City</strong> shopping mall is the largest<br />

installation of this type in the region. With this display, eight Sony<br />

broadcast plasma screens 50 in large are networked, which started<br />

a process of neworking of advertising screens at <strong>Delta</strong>. This process<br />

makes it possible <strong>to</strong> prepare, release and control, from one control<br />

room, the video content on all installed screens regardless of where<br />

In a new shop Escada Sport in Knez Mihailova Street, collections inspired by the seventies and eighties<br />

of the 20th century are on offer.<br />

The collection called New York Dance has been inspired by the American cult film Saturday Night Fever.<br />

It is dominated mostly by grey cot<strong>to</strong>n pullovers, tunics, pink <strong>to</strong>ps or satin blouses combined with tights.<br />

The other collection exuding a spirit of New York is called New York Punk and is dominated by black and<br />

grey colours. Details are styled after the rock of the eighties – pins, metal zippers, silver stars...<br />

By year end works are planned <strong>to</strong> take place on improvements of<br />

technical-and esthetic characteristics of LED displays at the Albanija<br />

action named Children are the Ornament<br />

of the World during which<br />

children <strong>to</strong>ok part in different creative<br />

workshops.<br />

A great number of children enjoyed<br />

drawing, making objects of different<br />

material, amused themselves<br />

with face paintings and animations.<br />

At the end of this event, a great<br />

masked ball was organized with a<br />

parade of masks, Halloween party<br />

and gifts of sweets.<br />
