YOUTH ENGAGEMENT AT FIRE<br />

STATIONS IN SALFORD<br />

FIRE stations in Salford are opening their<br />

doors to teach lifesaving skills <strong>and</strong> fire safety<br />

tips to pupils from local high schools as part<br />

of a new youth engagement partnership.<br />

called YE@.<br />

Aimed at pupils who are not fully engaging in<br />

the school curriculum, over four sessions,<br />

groups of up to 12 pupils from the high<br />

Salford Borough Manager Paul Petrykowski<br />

said: “As a service we work closely with our<br />

partners, in this case Salford’s Team Around<br />

School (TAS) workers, to have a positive<br />

influence in the communities we serve.<br />

“This youth engagement initiative, which<br />

we’ve called YE@ (Youth Engagement@) - is a<br />

good example of how we can use our<br />

schools learn about anti-social behaviour <strong>and</strong><br />

its impact on GMFRS <strong>and</strong> the community<br />

inside their local fire station.<br />

ECCLES CREWS TAKE PART IN PRAYER<br />

RELAY<br />

FIREFIGHTERS from Eccles <strong>Fire</strong> Station took<br />

part in a Relay of Prayer alongside pupils from<br />

two Salford schools in celebration of the<br />

Olympic Games.<br />

The YE@ partnership between <strong>Greater</strong><br />

<strong>Manchester</strong> <strong>Fire</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Rescue</strong> <strong>Service</strong> <strong>and</strong><br />

Salford City Council follows a successful pilot<br />

scheme involving around 20 pupils from Buile<br />

Hill High last year.<br />

Linking in with St Mary’s Roman Catholic<br />

Primary School in Eccles as part of the<br />

Diocese of Salford’s Catholic schools event,<br />

they carried the Relay of Prayer baton in their<br />

fire engine to St Joseph’s Roman Catholic<br />

Primary School in Ordsall on Monday, June<br />

said: “We were delighted to be asked to take<br />

part in the event by St Mary’s because they<br />
