The <strong>Office</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Student</strong> <strong>Development</strong> (<strong>OSD</strong>) is charged with the development and<br />

implementation <strong>of</strong> orientation and transitional programs for students and their families at<br />

the University <strong>of</strong> California, Berkeley. We also create residential communities that<br />

facilitate personal development and intellectual growth. The <strong>Office</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Student</strong><br />

<strong>Development</strong> includes New <strong>Student</strong> Services, Residential Living, Academic Services,<br />

and <strong>Student</strong> Engagement.<br />

Salary $11.25<br />

The <strong>OSD</strong> <strong>Clerk</strong> works up to 4-15 hours per week, depending on work-study status, type<br />

<strong>of</strong> position, and negotiates a work schedule with their direct supervisor, which may<br />

include some evening hours. <strong>Clerk</strong>s are placed in the central <strong>OSD</strong> <strong>Office</strong> at the<br />

Residential and <strong>Student</strong> Services Building at 2610 Channing Way, as well as at the<br />

residential units around campus.<br />

Customer Service (45%)<br />

Greet visitors to the <strong>of</strong>fice, assist with questions, and refer students to the correct resource or pr<strong>of</strong>essional staff.<br />

Collect documents from students concerning employment and distribute payment when necessary.<br />

Respond to drop-in, phone, and email questions from new students and their families about the CalSO reservation process (e.g.<br />

logging on, adding guests, modifying reservations, payment procedures, cancelling, etc.), and refer questions to the CalSO Program<br />

Directors or NSS Director when appropriate.<br />

Respond to general inquiries about the different programs that comprise the <strong>Office</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Student</strong> <strong>Development</strong>, and refer customers to<br />

appropriate staff and/or departments within RSSP.<br />

Explain University organization, governance, policies and procedures, and programs and services to new students and their guests.<br />

Listen to and address new student and guest concerns with honesty, objectivity, sensitivity, and empathy, and provide appropriate<br />

resources and referrals to ensure their needs are met as fully as possible.<br />

Additional Duties (5%)<br />

Staff the CalSO Assistance Table at check-in and lunch during orientation programs throughout June and July.<br />

Perform errands in the building or on campus as needed (e.g. drop-<strong>of</strong>fs, pick-ups, accompanying students, etc.).<br />

Qualifications<br />

Minimum Qualifications<br />

Current full-time Cal student (undergraduate or graduate) in good academic standing<br />

GPA must be a 2.0 or above during time <strong>of</strong> employment<br />

Preferred qualifications<br />

Have excellent skills in customer service and communication (both written and verbal).<br />

Have knowledge <strong>of</strong> campus policies, procedures, and resources.<br />

Previous experience as a CalSo Counselor is helpful but not required.<br />

Be able to handle heavy detail work and perform under pressure.<br />

Have the ability to take initiative and to work well independently.<br />

Be pr<strong>of</strong>icient in Micros<strong>of</strong>t <strong>Office</strong>.<br />

Terms <strong>of</strong> Employment<br />

The <strong>Clerk</strong> is expected to represent the <strong>Office</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Student</strong> <strong>Development</strong> during their time at the position and adhere to <strong>of</strong>fice<br />

expectations and procedures.<br />

Maintain the required 2.0 minimum G.P.A. throughout the term <strong>of</strong> employment.<br />

Maintain full-time academic status (12-13 units per semester for undergrads) throughout the term <strong>of</strong> employment.<br />

Work at a regularly scheduled shift during the time <strong>of</strong> employment excluding <strong>of</strong>ficial university holidays and breaks. Time <strong>of</strong>f<br />

must be discussed with and approved by the supervisor in advance.<br />

Continued employment is contingent upon a satisfactory job performance evaluation by the supervisor. Satisfactory job<br />

performance evaluation is defined as meeting expectations as defined by the job evaluation in all areas <strong>of</strong> the job description.


The <strong>Clerk</strong> will receive compensation <strong>of</strong> $11.25/hr.<br />

Be responsible with special staff privileges (i.e. access to <strong>of</strong>fice, phones, keys, <strong>of</strong>fice equipment, etc.).<br />

Maintain confidentiality and objectivity in all matters related to students and staff.<br />

Perform other duties as assigned by the staff <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Office</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Student</strong> <strong>Development</strong>.<br />
