4.3 In<strong>for</strong>mation on accommodation must include <strong>the</strong> following:<br />

4.3.1 Availability and characteristics <strong>of</strong> living accommodation options;<br />

4.3.2 Realistic estimates <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> cost <strong>of</strong> accommodation on and <strong>of</strong>f campus;<br />

4.3.3 Application processes <strong>for</strong> securing accommodation; and<br />

4.3.4 Whe<strong>the</strong>r <strong>the</strong> signatory has assessed <strong>the</strong> suitability <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> accommodation, and <strong>the</strong> result <strong>of</strong> any<br />

assessment.<br />

5 Prospectuses and promotional material<br />

5.1 Prospectuses or promotional material must give a fair and accurate representation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> activities and<br />

services <strong>the</strong> signatory is <strong>of</strong>fering to provide.<br />

5.2 Prospectuses or promotional material must include <strong>the</strong> in<strong>for</strong>mation to be provided to prospective<br />

international students listed in clause 4 above.<br />

5.3 Signatories must include <strong>the</strong> following standard wording with any prospectus or promotional material:<br />

<strong>International</strong> <strong>Students</strong>. Copies <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Code</strong> are available from <strong>the</strong> New Zealand Ministry <strong>of</strong> Education website<br />

at www.minedu.govt.nz/international.<br />

IMMIGRATION<br />

Full details <strong>of</strong> immigration requirements, advice on rights to employment in New Zealand while studying, and<br />

reporting requirements are available from Immigration New Zealand, and can be viewed on <strong>the</strong>ir website at<br />

www.immigration.govt.nz.<br />

ELIGIBILITY FOR HEALTH SERVICES<br />

Most international students are not entitled to publicly funded health services while in New Zealand. If you<br />

receive medical treatment during your visit, you may be liable <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> full costs <strong>of</strong> that treatment. Full details<br />

on entitlements to publicly funded health services are available through <strong>the</strong> Ministry <strong>of</strong> Health, and can be<br />

viewed on <strong>the</strong>ir website at www.moh.govt.nz.<br />

ACCIDENT INSURANCE<br />

The Accident Compensation Corporation provides accident insurance <strong>for</strong> all New Zealand citizens, residents,<br />

and temporary visitors to New Zealand, but you may still be liable <strong>for</strong> all o<strong>the</strong>r medical and related costs.<br />

Fur<strong>the</strong>r in<strong>for</strong>mation can be viewed on <strong>the</strong> ACC website at www.acc.co.nz.<br />

MEDICAL AND TRAVEL INSURANCE<br />

<strong>International</strong> students (including group students) must have appropriate and current medical and travel<br />

insurance while in New Zealand.<br />

6 Assessment <strong>of</strong> prospective international students<br />

6.1 Where a course requires a level <strong>of</strong> English oral and written competency, prior learning, and/or any academic<br />

prerequisites <strong>for</strong> students to participate effectively, <strong>the</strong> signatory must assess <strong>the</strong> prospective international<br />

student and be satisfied on reasonable grounds that <strong>the</strong>se competencies are met be<strong>for</strong>e making an <strong>of</strong>fer <strong>of</strong><br />

place to <strong>the</strong> student or accepting <strong>the</strong> student <strong>for</strong> enrolment. If <strong>the</strong>se competencies are met, <strong>the</strong> signatory has<br />

discretion to <strong>of</strong>fer a place to <strong>the</strong> student or to accept <strong>the</strong> student <strong>for</strong> enrolment.<br />

6.2 Signatories must advise prospective students prior to enrolment if course placement, or course placement<br />

at a particular level, is conditional on a given level <strong>of</strong> English language pr<strong>of</strong>iciency or prior learning being<br />

achieved through testing in New Zealand.<br />

6.3 If a signatory is not satisfied that a prospective student meets <strong>the</strong> requirements set out in clause 6.1, <strong>the</strong>y may<br />

advise <strong>the</strong> student <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> English language courses and/or prerequisite course/s that <strong>the</strong>se courses must be<br />

successfully completed be<strong>for</strong>e <strong>the</strong> signatory enrols <strong>the</strong>m and/or during <strong>the</strong>ir chosen programme <strong>of</strong> study.<br />

7 Accepting international students <strong>for</strong> enrolment<br />

7.1 Offers <strong>of</strong> course placement by a signatory to an international student, including where a student is changing<br />

from one provider to ano<strong>the</strong>r, must be based on an assessment <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> extent to which <strong>the</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>iciencies and<br />

career intentions <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> prospective international student are matched by <strong>the</strong> educational opportunities<br />

<strong>of</strong>fered by <strong>the</strong> signatory. The outcome <strong>of</strong> this assessment must be recorded in a <strong>for</strong>m that can be made<br />

available to Immigration New Zealand, if requested.
