Pre-training reading module
Required reading material on climate change basics and specifically
on adaptation to update newcomers and beginners will
be distributed one month before the training (requires approx.
4 h preparation time)
Day 1
The international community has pledged to raise USD
100 billion a year by 2020 for climate change adaptation
and mitigation in developing countries. The prominence of
climate change adaptation in international development
calls for effective monitoring tools so that the contribution
of adaptation measures to reducing vulnerability can be
assessed and justified.
SDC foresees considerable investments in this field and has
developed its own instrument, CEDRIG, to help implement
climate change adaptation in SDC projects.

Case presentation, discussion, and critical reflection on
participants‘ practical experiences
Monitoring climate change adaptation: An introduction to
issues, challenges, and potentials
This course will focus on adaptation to climate change and
how to monitor adaptation in projects and programmes
using the CEDRIG tool. The learning event uses inputs from
experts in adaptation and monitoring. Case studies from
SDC-supported projects will be presented and discussed to
learn about and apply tools and methodologies for climate
change adaptation. The challenges of monitoring adaptation
within the project cycle will also be addressed. This learning
event builds on previous courses organised by the GPCC.
The learning event also serves as a platform for networking
and for stimulating exchange of experiences between people
working in development cooperation in different positions
and institutions.
