The major city, Chengdu, is a Chinese city with a difference and despite rapid development, there are still delightful pockets of backstreet life, teahouses and riverside parks to explore. Your explorations begin in Huanglong, after transferring from the airport. From here take a one-way cable car and take a short hike above the long valley dotted with turquoise terraced pools. The dramatic contrast of evergreen forest, shimmering pools and yellow limestone is truly a sight to behold. From here, drive to Jiuzhaigou, one of China’s most beautiful natural reserves, famous for evergreen alpine forests, spectacularly clear turquoise lakes and snowcapped mountains. No private buses are allowed in the national park, so you will use a combination of park transportation and boardwalk hiking to see the highlights. On return to Chengdu, stop at the garden home of the renowned Tang Dynasty poet, Dufu. Relax in the teahouses of People’s Park before exploring Qingtai Old Street.
