p r o g r a m s YOUTH SERVICES Our Youth Services break the cycle of poverty by engaging homeless boys and girls in constructive activities that promote healing and empowerment. CAMP HOMEWARD BOUND Each summer, Camp Homeward Bound provides three 16-day sleep-away sessions at Harriman State Park for hundreds of boys and girls. Camp provides a safe haven, away from the harsh life of city streets and shelters, where they have fun and make friends, while learning reading, math and science. Bound for Success After School and Summer Day Camp Programs These programs provide quality academic and life skills instruction to children living in New York City’s homeless shelter system through a comprehensive curriculum and recreational activities. LONG-TERM SOLUTIONS Our Long-Term Solutions address housing and employment challenges by providing homeless and low-income individuals with job skills and stable homes. First Step Job Training Program First Step empowers homeless and low-income women to take the first step toward self-sufficiency through client-centered occupational and life skill development, as well as job search assistance and job placement. RENTAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (RAP) RAP helps homeless New Yorkers living in the shelter system who are employed full-time, but are still unable to afford housing
“First Step changed my life. I was a victim of domestic abuse, and suddenly found myself homeless with two small kids. The Coalition took us in and helped me find a safe home. But I struggled to pay my rent. Then I heard about how I could get job training through First Step. The skills I learned helped me land a clerical job at a law firm. Now I’m back in school studying to be a paralegal, and my oldest son is starting college in the fall. I still go back to First Step to talk to the new students because It’s really important to me to be able to give back now that I can! – Shauna M. by providing monthly rent subsidies as well as budgeting and counseling support for up to two years. RAP participants are able to successfully transition into and maintain permanent affordable housing. Scattered Site Housing Program (SSHP) SSHP provides safe and supportive housing to homeless men and women struggling with HIV/AIDS. Case managers provide access to continuous medical treatment, emotional support, and proper nutrition. Coalition Houses Coalition Houses offers private and supportive apartment living for 38 homeless single adults, many with mental and physical disabilities or a history of substance abuse. Our onsite staff address educational and psychological issues. THE BRIDGE BUILDING Bridge Building provides one- and two-bedroom apartments for homeless women in need of housing to reunite with their children in foster care. Counselors provide emotional support and financial training in a nurturing family atmosphere.
