Course Content<br />

Science GCSE<br />

There are a number of different Science GCSE courses available: Science; Additional Science;<br />

Additional Applied Science; Biology; Chemistry and Physics. All students will study Science GCSE<br />

and most students will take Additional Science in <strong>Year</strong> 11, including those students who are taking<br />

Triple Science. There is an option to take Additional Applied Science instead and pupils will opt for<br />

this course at the end of <strong>Year</strong> 10. All courses cover Biology, Chemistry and Physics and are taught<br />

by specialist teachers. Pupils hoping to take Science A-levels in <strong>Year</strong> 12 MUST have Science and<br />

Additional Science or Biology, Chemistry and Physics GCSEs.<br />

Science GCSE (EDEXCEL 2SC01) (EBacc SUBJECT)<br />

All students will follow this course. It has been designed to focus on Science relevant to everyday<br />

75% of the final GCSE grade<br />

25% of the final GCSE grade<br />

3 one hour tiered written examination taken in June 2014<br />

Controlled assessment – work based on a number of tasks.<br />

It will not be possible to repeat individual tasks but the<br />

best mark achieved will be submitted<br />

Pupils taking Home Economics: Child Development in Option B will follow this course over two<br />

years and will be taking this examination together with their Child Development at the end of <strong>Year</strong><br />

11 in June 2015.<br />
