Why choose Drama?
Drama GCSE
Drama is integral to all human interaction. From the roles we play in everyday life to the
imaginative characters we portray on the stage: a GCSE Drama student is a first class
communicator who is able to transform ideas into actions, discussions into dynamic
performances, creativity into economically enterprising projects. You will develop as a theatre
practitioner and gain skills essential for the modern workplace such as presentation skills,
confidence and team work.
Course Content
Unit 1 – Drama Exploration. Using drama strategies and medium we will explore themes and
issues that are relevant in today’s society. Using Theatre as a means of dramatic expression.
Unit 2 – Exploring a Play. We examine a play in detail analysing the text as well developing
practical skills through fun workshops. Theatre Trips are essential and this impacts on how you
create pieces of drama. You will be challenging audiences to think about the social, cultural,
historical and political significance of your work.
Unit 3 – Drama performance. The exam board sets us an assignment. Last year, students had to
create pieces of theatre in response to a theme. It inspired amazing work which communicated
how theatre impacts on the society and can transform the audience members to feel and think
differently.
