Friday of the Second Week of Holy Pentecost
The Vespers Gospel
Psalm 15:9
A Psalm of David.
Therefore my heart has been gladdened, and my tongue has rejoiced:
moreover, my flesh also shall dwell in hope. Alleluia.
Matthew 17:14-18
Stand with the fear of God. Let us hear the Holy Gospel. Bless, O Lord, the reading of the Holy Gospel, according to
St. Matthew. Blessed be He Who comes in the Name of the Lord. Our Lord, God, Saviour, and King of us all, Jesus Christ,
Son of the Living God, to Whom is glory forever.
And when they were come to
the multitude, there came to him a
certain man, kneeling down to him,
and saying, Lord, have mercy on my
son: for he is lunatick, and sore vexed:
for ofttimes he falleth into the fire, and
oft into the water. And I brought him
to thy disciples, and they could not
cure him. Then Jesus answered and
said, O faithless and perverse
generation, how long shall I be with
you? how long shall I suffer you?
bring him hither to me. And Jesus
rebuked the devil; and he departed
out of him: and the child was cured
from that very hour. Glory be to God forever.
The Matins Gospel
Psalm 15:10-11
A Psalm of David.
For Thou wilt not leave my soul in Amenti; neither wilt Thou suffer Thine
Holy One to see corruption. Thou hast instructed me in the ways of life: Thou
wilt fill me with joy by Thy countenance. Alleluia.
Matthew 16:21-23
Stand with the fear of God. Let us hear the Holy Gospel. Bless, O Lord, the reading of the Holy Gospel, according to
St. Matthew. Blessed be He Who comes in the Name of the Lord. Our Lord, God, Saviour, and King of us all, Jesus Christ,
Son of the Living God, to Whom is glory forever.
From that time forth began Jesus
to shew unto his disciples, how that he
must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer
many things of the elders and chief
priests and scribes, and be killed, and
be raised again the third day. Then
Peter took him, and began to rebuke
him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord:
this shall not be unto thee. But he
turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee
behind me, Satan: thou art an offence
unto me: for thou savourest not the
things that be of God, but those that
be of men. Glory be to God forever.
