HIS 8504 Introduction to US Women’s History Students will explore the<br />
American past from the Colonial era to the present, focusing on the<br />
social and cultural diversity of the American experience through an<br />
analysis of the lives of American women. Students will explore concepts<br />
of power, gender, social class, cultural identity, and race/<br />
ethnicity as they emerge, are perceived, contested, and change over<br />
time and space. Students will analyze a variety of media and complete<br />
a final research project. Corequisite: ENG 1530.<br />

transferring to a four‐year social work or human services program may<br />

INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION<br />
INE 2730 Semester Abroad The student should consult with the study<br />
abroad coordinator to determine the appropriate course number(s) to<br />
register for because credit hours vary. Offers programs in many countries<br />
including Australia, Ecuador, England, Ireland, and Spain. Programs<br />
consist of courses taken at a college or university in the host<br />
country. Credit hours earned vary by program and session. Students<br />
can choose courses in the humanities, social sciences, business and<br />
internships for service professions. Classes are conducted in English<br />
and other languages. Students may take a conventional semester<br />
abroad, studying at a university, or they may also engage in service<br />
learning 20 hours per week, while attending a university abroad. Financial<br />
aid for which a student is eligible applies to these programs as well.<br />
Application deadline for the summer session is March 1; for the fall<br />
semester it is April 1; and for the spring semester it is November 1;<br />
with some exceptions for certain programs. Prerequisite: 26 college<br />
credits with a 2.5 GPA or better.<br />
INTERDISCIPLINARY STUDIES<br />

INT 7011 Topical Studies: Modern Media This class is a thematic offering<br />
on a topic of the Developmental Studies program's choice. The<br />
topics should be of interest to the developmental studies student and<br />
pair with their reading, composition, and other classes. Topics may<br />
vary but could include issues like current events, American culture, and<br />
sports and mass media. When possible, it will tie in with other JCC<br />
events and aid in an overall enriching experience intended to improve<br />
student’s ability to discuss, interpret and explain a variety of issues.<br />
INT 7014 Current Events & the Media Students will explore the way<br />
current issues and events are presented by the media. When possible,<br />
it will tie in with other JCC events and aid in an overall enriching experience<br />
intended to improve student ability to discuss, interpret, and<br />
explain a variety of issues. By bringing in current issues, students will<br />
gain an understanding of and appreciation for the variety of ways information<br />
is present in mainstream American culture. Students will<br />
study a variety of topics through different informational mediums,<br />
including periodicals, broadcast and print news, and other informational<br />
outlets. Prerequisite: Reading score 80+.<br />
INT 8002 Disney Institute Experience Prerequisite: 24 college credits,<br />
2.5 GPA or better, and complete satisfactory interview process.<br />
