PHE 7014 Mixed Martial Arts I Students will demonstrate the use of<br />

both striking and grappling techniques, both standing and on the<br />

ground as skills required in the full contact combat sport of mixed<br />

martial arts (MMA). The course will combine the knowledge and<br />

skills learned in traditional karate and/or co‐ed self defense to advance<br />

the students into the realm of stand‐up and ground fighting.<br />

Prerequisite: PHE 1630 or PHE 1770 or permission of instructor.<br />

PHE 7015 Aqua Zumba Students will learn that Aqua Zumba is a Latininspired,<br />

dance‐fitness class that incorporates Latin and International<br />

music and dance movements, which create a dynamic, exciting, and<br />

effective workout in the pool. This class format combines fast and<br />

slow rhythms that tone and sculpt the body in an aerobic/fitness<br />

fashion to achieve a unique blended balance of cardio and muscletoning<br />

benefits. Aqua Zumba integrates some of the basic principles<br />

of aerobic and resistance training to maximize caloric output, cardiovascular<br />

benefits, and total body toning. This course enables the<br />

student to become physically fit while minimizing the risk of injury to<br />

joints of the body. Prerequisite: Eligibility ENG 0410.<br />

PHE 7548 Sport in Society Students will learn about the relationships<br />

between sports, culture, and society through the use of concepts,<br />

theories, and research. Topics to be presented may include, but will<br />

not be limited to, such issues as violence in sport, gender and sport,<br />

race and sport, sport and the media, and sport and politics. Corequisite:<br />

ENG 1510 or Eligibility: ENG 1530.<br />
