The CEL-400 Sound Level Meters are an ergonomic, 

modular and effective interpretation of the classic integrating 

instrument. The instruments are available as 

either direct read out (CEL-440) or datalogging (CEL- 

480) versions, in either Type 1 or 2 configurations. Both 

instruments provide read out and data storage (CEL- 

480) of full 1/3 Ocatve Band Frequency levels, with an 

effective dynamic range of 20 to 140 dB(A). Instruments 

can display information as either numerical values or 

frequency graphs on screen, including specific information

Power comes from 4 "AA" size batteries, which give

Digital Impulse Sound Level Meter, Model CEL 254 

The CEL-254 Digital Impulse Sound Level Meter is specially designed 

to meet the sound survey needs of industrial hygienists and safety professionals. 

The CEL-254 uses a large digital display with full 0.1dB resolution to 

guarantee easy, precise reading. 

The sound level meter is equipped with both “A” and “C” frequency 

weightings to take advantage of the increasing use of hearing protection 

Noise Reduction Rating (NRR) which simplifies the selection of Hearing 

Protectors. 

Just two measurement ranges, both covering a 70dB span, are needed 

to achieve a 30dB-135dB(A) total measurement span so that a single 

range of 65dB-135dB is available for industrial surveys. 

The meter complies with both the IEC 651 and ANSI S1.4 1983 in the 

Type 2 categories by providing both Fast and Slow response times. In addition, 

an Impulse response is available for those territories with extra 

legislative control over impulsive noise. The Impulse response is normally 

used in conjunction with the Maximum Hold function and this combination 

is equipped with a rapid reset facility. To optimize measuring opportunities 

“maximum hold” is also operational on both Fast and Slow responses. 

Digital Sound Survey Meter, Model CEL 231 

The CEL-231 is a simplified version of the CEL-254 maintaining much 

of the specification. Fast and Slow time weightings are provided along

Convertible Noise Dosimeter/Sound Level Meter

The CEL-300 Series "Convertible" dosimeters 

and sound level meters offer the ability to make 

noise measurements in many different environments. 

The units are called "Convertible" because 

the user can turn a dosimeter into a sound level 

meter and back again, simply by inserting a different 

microphone. This provides the most flexibility 

in a single unit and reduces the cost for the 

user. 

In dosimeter mode, instruments are delivered 

pre-programmed with the operating parameters 

to measure noise dose to the relevant standards 

(ie OSHA), and measure from 30 to 140 dB in 

three 70 dB ranges. Whilst the CEL-320 provides 

summary statistics for download, the CEL-360 

stores individual readings to provide a full time 

history. 

In sound level meter mode, instruments possess 

up to 20 configurable operating modes, which can 

be user programmed to suit any specific task. 

Simply selecting the mode and pressing "run" 

starts the measurement and displays current information. 

Download all the data to the PC for 

subsequent analysis. 

Both models are suitable for workplace noise 

monitoring, simple hand-held noise surveys and

Audio Dosimeters 

AMETEK MARK Series audio dosimeters are designed for accuracy, 

reliability and ease-of-use. Available in three models, these 

extremely portable and lightweight instruments are convenient and 

easy to wear. They can also be used as Sound Level Meters. 

The MARK Series feature simple pushbutton operation. Press a 

pushbutton and you sequentially display sampled data without disrupting 

the sampling process. Status indicators allow the user to

and let the noise monitor do the rest. Any adjustments 

that are necessary are automatically determined 

and made by the monitor.
