South Surrey
Kensington Prairie Community Centre
Outdoor Green Wall
Green over Grey designers planted
the largest outdoor green wall of
its kind in North America on the
Semiahmoo Library and RCMP
Facility. The unique design is nearly
3,000 square feet and consists of
over 10,000 plants and 120
different species.
Pioneer Pedestrian
and Cycling Overpass
The new Pioneer Pedestrian and
Cycling Overpass over Highway
99 at 35 Avenue connects
neighbourhoods on both sides of
the highway to regional cycling
routes, and will eventually connect
to the U.S. border. A vital link in the
city’s greenway, it is part of a suite
of pedestrian and cycling projects
being delivered which include the
Tynehead Overpass over Highway
#1, 29 km of greenway pathways,
and 92 km of on-street bike lanes.
Special Crosswalk
South Surrey now boasts Canada’s
first special crosswalk with
pedestrian presence detection.
The crosswalk at 24 Avenue and
Mall Entrance improves safety
and reduces delays by detecting
pedestrians and operating
the flashing lights only while
pedestrians are present.
16 Ave/Hwy 99 Interchange
The City is working with senior
levels of government to create
a new Hwy 99 interchange at
16 Avenue. The interchange will
improve goods movement, border
crossing circulation, and commuter
connectivity between Highway 99
and the Abbotsford airport.
New Grandview Heights
Swimming Pool
A new 50 metre indoor swimming
pool with diving facilities will
be built to serve the growing
neighbourhoods in south and east
Surrey. The new pool will provide
additional competitive and leisure
opportunities, including learn to
swim lessons, water fitness and
rehabilitation programs.
New Fitness Facility at
South Surrey Recreation
Centre
A new fitness facility with the latest
equipment will provide more fitness
options for the growing South
Surrey community. Programming
will include weights, stretching and
cardio programming for a variety of
ages and abilities.
Community Arts Space
The City of Surrey will be developing
additional arts space in South
Surrey. The first phase will be
a 3,500 to 4,000 square foot
expansion to the South Surrey
Recreation Centre in 2012. The
second phase will be the creation
of a new arts centre on 152 Street
in the South Surrey town centre.
The facility will include performing
arts and visual arts space, as well
as instructional and studio areas.
New Kensington Prairie
Community Centre
The former Kensington Prairie
School has been converted into a
multi-purpose community centre
with space and facilities to serve
the growing communities of Morgan
Creek, Rosemary Heights and
Grandview.
Kwomais Point Park
Building Renovations
The Sanford Hall and Kwomais
Lodge buildings have been
renovated to provide new space
for recreational programming and
community use in the spectacular
setting of Kwomais Point Park. A
public art mosaic feature has been
added to the entrance plaza.
