New Fitness Facility and
Gymnasium at Fraser
Heights Recreation Centre:
The 16,000 square-foot expansion
to the Fraser Heights Recreation
Centre will double the size of the
current facility and expand the
visibility of athletics and recreation
in the growing community. The
addition includes a state-of-the-art
7,500 square-foot “sprung floor”
gymnasium with regulation sized
basketball and volleyball courts, an
outdoor patio, and 8,000 square
feet of fitness and wellness space.
The centre is fully accessible and
shadows a LEED Gold standard.
A new parking area will provide
flexible space for markets, fairs, and
informal sports.
New Swimming Pool at
Guildford Recreation Centre
This new pool will offer increased
access to swimming lessons and
recreational swimming for all North
Surrey residents.
New Artificial Turf Field
and Field House at Hjorth
Road Park
A second artificial turf field was
added in 2010, significantly
increasing the number of hours of
outdoor field programming available
in this growing community. A new
field house with public washrooms,
team changing rooms and meeting
space supports the increased
participation at the park.
Surrey Bend Regional Park
The City of Surrey and Metro
Vancouver are partnering to create
the new Surrey Bend Regional Park.
Surrey Bend is 348 hectares and
is part of a complex of parks and
protected areas along the Fraser
River. The park plan includes a trail
network, educational opportunities,
and an entrance area, which will
include parking, washroom facilities,
viewing platform and dock, group
picnic area, and a children’s nature
play area. Future plans include the
potential for a pedestrian and cycling
overpass over the CN rail corridor for
residents to access the park from
Fraser Heights.
