OVERVIEW
The need for new approaches in waste water management is being driven by the necessity for sustainability implementing effective
wastewater-treatment technologies are a crucial component of this process. The objectives of sustainable wastewater management
are to deliver effective systems for the collection, treatment, and reuse of water in a manner that does not undesirably impact the
health of humans or other life on earth therefore conserves environmental quality of ecological systems.
This workshop promises to deliver a powerful and informative approach in understanding the hydraulic fundamentals and
biological processes that will help ensure that plants operate at an optimum level. The majority of wastewater throughout the
world is discharged without any form of treatment, causing widespread risks to human health, animals and extensive pollution of
the environment.
Topical issues that will be addressed include the chemistry of waste water treatment, the thickening process and anaerobic
digestion, dewatering procedures and various other topics that will provide you with elective techniques and solutions to improve

Ian Hammond has been involved with waste management projects for the past 17 years in the capacity of various leadership
positions. He holds a bachelor of sciences degree, a graduate diploma in civil engineering and an MBA from the University of
Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa.
The role played by Ian in South Africa includes project development and management which are complemented by his excellent
communication, comprehension and learning skills that enabled him to develop companies and improve profitability.
Ian has established three companies in his career thus far and fully managed these companies to provide environmental solutions
to heavy industries in South Africa. Having worked in the industry for a number of years, his skills are currently at an optimum level
as he is familiar with the challenges faced by waste producing companies. He understands the business related environmental
concerns posed by day-to-day activities and functions solution provider to these challenges and issues faced.
