Late applications may not be accepted. Applicants are not guaranteed volunteer work and
WOMAD NZ shall appoint positions as deemed suitable.
PLEASE NOTE: You must be able to attend a WOMAD briefing in New Plymouth, these briefings
will occur sometime between 9am Tuesday 12th and 6pm Thursday 14th March.
The volunteer recruitment process is:
volunteer applications will be assessed after the closing date.
If you have not volunteered for WOMAD NZ before, you will be asked to buy your
WOMAD ticket and at the end of WOMAD this will be refunded to your bank account
WOMAD team leaders may contact volunteers to arrange an interview.
Suitability will be assessed and a letter informing the applicant of their placement - or not -
will be sent along with a contract outlining obligations for both parties and the area of
voluntary work (if relevant).
Volunteers will be required to attend training and health and safety induction lessons and
supply a digital photo to WOMAD NZ.
WOMAD NZ will provide each volunteer with a roster.
Introduction
WOMAD 2013 will have on site: an audience of 12,500 ticket holders; approximately 3,000
children; 1,000 volunteers, artists and staff. WOMAD is New Zealand’s premier summer music
festival. Around 280 performers from 18 different countries; will deliver 30 hours of entertainment
on 7 outdoor stages. The festival also features over 70 food and craft stalls operating in the global
village.

Volunteers play an important role in the operations and delivery of this event, from drivers, to traffic
control, through to minders and more. In past years we have had up to 400 volunteers involved, all
performing duties that ensure WOMAD runs smoothly by assisting and supporting key staff during
this celebration of world music, arts and dance.
We appreciate and acknowledge the importance of the volunteer and thank you in advance for

VOLUNTEER CONDITIONS
The festival places trust in and around our volunteers to assist us in presenting a quality cultural
experience to an audience of thousands. To ensure that all areas of the festival run smoothly and
efficiently, we rely on you as a volunteer to turn up and work your allocated shifts.
In return you will be given a 3-day pass that will allow you entry to the festival as an audience
member for the hours when you are not working.
Thank you to the vast majority of volunteers support and enjoy WOMAD and what it brings
to our community, our artists and our country. Due to some volunteers in the past taking
advantage of our goodwill, we are now forced into a position where new volunteers who are
approved for WOMAD 2013 must purchase a ticket which will be refunded after the festival.
When on TAFT premises/WOMAD festival site the volunteer agrees to abide by the companies
rules and policies and follow health and safety procedures.
Either party may end this arrangement at any time. If you choose to do so, you must inform your
supervisor and return your festival pass and wristband. Failure to do so will result in your
immediate removal from the festival site. Failure to complete a rostered shift as agreed may result
in you being required to forfeit your wristband and therefore you will be unable to enter the festival.
I hereby agree to:
Abide by the companies rules and policies in the positions job description.
Follow the health and safety procedures.
Complete 18 hours of volunteer work DURING the festival as rostered. (This does not
include training sessions or briefings) OR
Complete 24 hours of volunteer work either BEFORE, or AFTER the festival as rostered.

Repeat Volunteer:
I understand that if I do not fulfil my part of the agreement (i.e. collect my free pass but do not
turn up to work my allocated shifts) I will be invoiced for the 3-day WOMAD pass or may be
asked to vacate the WOMAD site.
New Volunteer:
I understand that if I do not fulfil my part of the agreement by completing the rostered hours
that I will not have the cost of my three day pass refunded
Please note that all volunteers must supply a photograph. If a volunteer does not turn up for a
rostered shift then security will be issued with the photograph and the volunteer will be
removed from the festival site and wristband will be confiscated.
In the event of accident, misadventure or illness, I will contact the festival as early as
circumstances allow so that a replacement may be found for your roster.
In exchange I will receive a free 3-day pass to WOMAD 2013 (or a refund after the event for new
volunteers) and any other volunteer subsidies that WOMAD implements.
If offered a volunteer position, I agree to abide by the above conditions.
