elcome back! We hope you had a restful
summer and spent quality time with those
closest to you! This promises to be another
fantastic year for TBAISD! Please keep the TBAISD
vision: To be the BEST educational system in the
world, close to your heart and mind. We continue to
make steps forward in pursuit of global excellence in
education!
We begin the 2010-11 school year with over 34
new faces. Thousands of applicants attempted to secure
employment with our organization this summer.
We were very pleased with the depth and skill of our
candidates. We welcome our new employees.
Our Project ReImagine initiative continues to
drive us forward. We will hold ourselves accountable
to ensure 100% of our graduates are ready for
career, college and the ever-changing 21st century
global economy. This bold and innovative project is
now one year old. The 18 outcomes within ReImagine
serve as the basis for TBAISD’s continuous improvement
efforts. There is no status quo anywhere
within our organization. Together, we should be very

is here to help us welcome you back, to make you
laugh, to make you think, and to kick-off this new

University and has spoken to over 5 million students,
teachers, and parents since 1978. He has shared the

The Grant Review Committee will review your proposal
ideas, provide budget development assistance, attain
supporting organizational documentation, and supply
proofreading services. This process is designed to assist
our staff in grant writing as well as assure that we don’t
have competing applications for the same funding
source. In addition, the team will assist in making sure
each grant request supports our TBAISD mission and
vision of being “The BEST educational system in the
world.”

Fall flu clinics
Flu shot clinics are scheduled for two separate
days this fall. It is requested that you register online
at www.tbaisd.k12.mi.us, Professional Development
tab. Vaccines are ordered according to
the number of staff that has registered. Only those
who register will be able to get the flu shot at these
clinics. The cost is $6. Checks are to be made out
to TBAISD and will be collected when the shot is
given. Please register by September 30 to insure
enough vaccines are ordered.

Employee photo IDs
Please note: all TBAISD staff need photo
ID badges. If you do not have one, please
make arrangements at the Arnell Administration
main office to have
your photo taken. ID photo badges
are to be used for identification at
local schools and to gain access to certain sites
with keyless door entry locks. For security reasons,
if you misplace or lose your magnetic stripe photo
ID card, please report this immediately to Renee
Childers at ext. 26212 or Teresa Inness at ext.
26308. If you need a TBAISD lanyard or badge
clip please call ext. 26212.
Mileage/Travel procedure
All “travel vouchers” must be turned in to your
supervisor monthly or according to the following
schedule:
July 1 – September 30
– Due no later than October 31, 2010
October 1 – December 31
– Due no later than January 31, 2011
January 1 – March 31
– Due no later than April 30, 2011
April 1 – June 30
– Due no later than June 30, 2011
If you work the summer session, travel vouchers
must be turned into your supervisor no later
than June 30 and again the last day of the summer
session.
Travel reimbursement is included in your paycheck
and is not subject to income tax withholding.
Travel vouchers can be filled in and printed
from the web site under employee forms.
Travel vouchers must be turned in on a timely
basis. Failure to do so will result in NON-PAY-
MENT of the voucher.

Substitute system advisory
Please be advised that internal PCMI service hours and
responsibilities have changed. Since 2007, many of you
have worked with Laura Tubbs directly regarding questions/requests
with the substitute calling system. Laura
will continue servicing the five county area, but at a different
capacity. Effective immediately, all questions with
regard to WillSub should be directed to their toll free
number at 1-800-319-4278. For less urgent matters and/
or general inquiries, please send an e-mail to:
info@willsub.com. Your level of service will not be compromised
with this change.
With regard to specific questions regarding compliance,
please continue to contact Laura directly at 231-922-
6230 or ltubbs@pcmiservices.com.

As a provider and supporter of excellence in education,
Traverse Bay Area Intermediate School District must be
concerned with public awareness and recognition.
How many times have you had to explain who
TBAISD is and what we do? Do you get a puzzled look
from your fellow man/woman when you are asked where
you work? Do you catch yourself saying “I work for
TBA,” which really only means you work for the Traverse
Bay Area?
This ISD is known as a behind-the-scenes
educational service agency, but we are much more
than what our region perceives. Each one of us is
responsible for creating clarity and awareness about
this organization. The passion we possess can provide
a profound influence in our own regional educational
arena. But our message has to be clear.
Throughout the year you will find helpful tips within
the Check It Out newsletter to assist in bringing clarity,
common messages and talking points to your attention.
Please take the time to re-introduce TBAISD to every
audience you encounter, and share your passion to make

MSU fans and supporters – Witness the power
of the 2010 Spartan football team, coached by
Mark Dantonio. Once again, I have sets (two
tickets each) for several MSU home games at
Spartan Stadium. Seats are terrific, in upper deck,
on 50-yard line, near concession stands and restrooms.
Tickets are $49/each ($98/2). Tickets will only be sold
in sets of two. They are below face value, as we have
season tickets and get a break. Tickets are available for
the following games:
September 25 – MSU vs. Northern Colorado
November 6 – MSU vs. Minnesota
November 20 – MSU vs. Purdue

Payroll
Welcome back to the 2010/11 school year. We are
making a change to payroll this year. Direct deposit
stubs will no longer be printed and distributed to
employees after the 9/3/10 pay date.
You are able to access your paystub on-line at:
http://myinfo.misd.net using any TBAISD computer or
your home computer. Payroll has included your user
ID and password on the 9/3/10 stubs and instructions
on how to access the on-line viewing are included in
your opening day packet.
