Pete Dempsey ’78 is now board-certified in the
practice of Preventive and Aerospace Medicine.
Training included a residency in both specialties
and the earning of a master’s degree in Aerospace
Medicine at Wright State University.
Kristen Lelak Shepard ’87 and her family
moved to Bentonville, Arkansas in June of
2008. Her husband, Bruce, accepted a job at
the Walmart home office working with hospital
systems all over the U.S. to place clinics in
Supercenters. Kristen is subbing in the local
school system and is working on building an
at-home cake business.
Major Bryan P. Ford ’89 took command of
the 5th Munitions Squadron, Minot AFB, N.D.
on July 15, 2009. He recently returned from his
overseas assignment at the 48th Fighter Wing,
RAF Lakenheath, Suffolk England, where he
was the Operations Officer for the 48th Equipment
Maint

Eric O’Neill ’89 received his Ph.D. in Biology
(Evolutionary Genetics) from Utah State
University in May 2009.
Matt Shortal ’90 and John Vrionis ’93 finished
The Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon on June
14, 2009. The race features heart-pounding action,
including a 1.5 mile swim through frigid
waters from Alcatraz Island to shore, a grueling
18-mile bike race, and a demanding 8-mile
run through the rugged trails of Golden Gate
Recreation Area.
The Williams Family celebrated the Baptisms
of three new family members in June 2009. The
Sacraments were performed by Msgr. Lopez
in the St. Pius X chapel. (Above, l-r) Alison,

Father Joseph Van House ’99 was ordained to
the priesthood at The Cistercian Abbey of Our
Lady of Dallas in Irving, TX on Saturday, August
15, 2009. Alumni in attendance were John Van

Billy Stogner ’00 began graduate studies this fall
at Vanderbilt University. Enrolled in the Owen
Graduate School of Management, Billy is working
toward his MBA in finance/health care.

Brian McDermott ’04 and Keegan McDermott
’04 are both members of the Legionaries of
Christ and are in their fifth year of formation to
be ordained as Catholic priests. Keegan returned
from Rome, Italy in the summer of 2009 after
spending two years there, and Brian is studying
in Thornwood, New York. Both will complete
a two-year internship before continuing their
education as seminarians. Brian and Keegan each
have a bachelor’s degree in philosophy. They
both hope to be ordained in seven years.
Rebecca Krygiel ’05 graduated Magna Cum
Laude (and Phi Beta Kappa) on May 9 from
the University of South Carolina with degrees
in biology and Spanish. A member of Gamma
Beta Phi Honors Fraternity,
Rebecca was
the Magellan Scholar
for 2008-2009 academic
year under Dr.
Maria Majorette O.
Pena Ph.D. for Colon
Cancer Research.
She was also research
assistant in the
Biomedical Undergraduate Research Program
through University of South Carolina School of
Medicine working with Dr. Shawn Youngstedt,
Ph.D. In the fall of 2009 she began attending
King’s College in London, England as one of
12 students selected for the graduate program
of Human and Applied Physiology.
