Meet Our New Staff Members Steve Walls Director of Public Works Steve Walls was hired in July as the Town’s Director of Public Works. A life-long Queen Anne’s County resident, he attended Centreville Elementary School, Centreville Middle School and is a graduate of Queen Anne’s County High School. Steve graduated from Chesapeake College and the University of Maryland College Park and received his Master of Science degree in Public Administration from Wilmington College. Steve spent 33 years in various management positions with Queen Anne’s County government, including Director of Public Works and Director of Parks and Recreation. Most recently, Steve was the Town Manager for the towns of Sudlersville and Millington. While working for the Queen Anne’s County Public Works Department, Steve was actively involved in the Maryland Association of Counties and served as President of the County Engineers Association of Maryland (CEAM), the Public Works affiliate branch. He has also been involved with the Maryland Municipal League and Maryland Rural Water Association. In addition to his extensive public sector experience, he has some private-sector experience helping at Serendipidee, a retail business on North Commerce Street owned and operated by his wife, Dee. The Walls family resides just outside the Town of Centreville and were pleased to welcome their first grandchild, Camden Steven, this month. Congratulations! Carol D’Agostino Main Street Manager Carol D’Agostino began work last month as the Main Street Manager for the Town of Centreville. Main Street is a national movement designed to revitalize and strengthen local business communities and neighborhoods. Centreville is one of 26 Main Street programs in Maryland. Nationally, Main Street is a network of more than 2,000 community programs that includes 37 statewide programs, seven citywide programs, and two regional programs. Carol is a businessperson who brings more than 30 years of public relations, marketing, and communications experience to the Centreville Main Street program. As the owner of a boutique public relations agency, she helps entrepreneurs market and grow their business, and has worked with businesses in the retail, service, construction, health care, and non-profit sectors. Carol earned a bachelor’s degree in Journalism from Penn 2 State University. She is a graduate of Shore Leadership’s Class of 2012 and a Board Member of the Foundation for Community Partnerships in Queen Anne’s County. Carol is also a member of the Chesapeake Women’s Network, Queen Anne’s and Talbot chapters, and the Talbot County Chamber of Commerce. She is a resident of Chester and attends Our Mother of Sorrows Church in Centreville. Dennis Lannon Police Officer Dennis Lannon was sworn in as an Officer in the Centreville Police Department in October. He completed the Police Academy at Anne Arundel Community College this summer and subsequently received certification as a Police Officer from the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commissions. Prior to enrolling in the Academy, Dennis operated his own business and previously served the US Army in the 82nd Airborne Division. Dennis and his family live in Caroline County, where he graduated from Caroline High School. He is pictured here with his family, the Chief of Police, and Members of the Town Council immediately after being sworn in. Krystel Ebaugh Administrative Assistant Krystel Ebaugh brought her excellent customer service skills to the front office team in August. Born in Misawa, Japan, Krystel grew up in Bowie, Md. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice from Michigan State University, where she also played on the women’s lacrosse team. Krystel received her Master of Business Administration degree in Human Resources Management from the University of Phoenix in 2006. Krystel currently resides in Ridgely with her husband, Michael, and two children, Reagan and Maximus. She previously worked for the Prince George’s County Police Department Personnel Services Division, before taking a few years at home to raise children. In her free time, she enjoys playing sports and crocheting.

Meeting Room 212 Broadway) Do You Feel The Need For Speed? ... Then Get Ready For Speed Cameras O ne of the most frequent and recurring complaints heard in the Town of Centreville is about speeding. While the Centreville Police Department vigorously enforces traffic laws throughout Town, its staff of 10 sworn officers cannot stop or deter speeders everywhere in Town 24 hours a day. Traditional enforcement forces police officers to follow and stop a violator in order to cite them, but traffic volume and safety considerations mean that police officers can only apprehend a fraction of the violators. Motorists, pedestrians, and the officers are at risk not only from speeders, but from this type of enforcement. However, Maryland State Law now allows speed cameras in the vicinity of schools, and the Town Council adopted Ordinance 04-2012 to allow their use in specified school zones in Town. These zones (shown on the map) cover a significant portion of the central part of the Town of Centreville: along the entire length of MD 304 as well as from Centreville Heights to MD 18. Speed camera citations are only issued to vehicles traveling more than 12 miles an hour above the speed limit. As Council Vice President Smokey Sigler told WBOC in an interview, "We want the citizens and the people coming to our community to slow down. That's all we are asking." The program will begin with a 30 day warning period, after which $40 citations will be issued. While not everyone may agree with the use of speed cameras, there are not many who have spoken up in favor of people who drive more than a dozen miles an hour above the posted speed limit. Help save your friends and family the frustration of receiving a citation by reminding them to drive safely and below the speed limit.
