Steve Walls Hired as
Town Manager

he
Town Council announced at the Feb. 21 Council
meeting that Steve Walls had been hired as the
Town Manager. Steve took his oath at the March 7
meeting.
Steve has been serving as the Acting Town Manager
since January. A life-long Queen Anne’s County resident,
he attended Centreville Elementary School, Centreville
Middle School and is a graduate of Queen Anne’s County
High School. Steve graduated from Chesapeake College
and the University of Maryland College Park. He
received his Master of Science in Public Administration
from Wilmington College. Steve spent 33 years in various
management positions with Queen Anne’s County government,
including Director of Public Works and Director of
Parks and Recreation. Prior to starting with the Town of
Centreville in July 2012 as the Director of Public Works,
Steve was the Town Manager for the towns of Sudlersville
and Millington.

Clifford “Kip” Matthews, Jr.
Hired as Public Works Director

“Kip” Matthews, Jr. has
been hired as the Town’s Public
Works Director.
Kip grew up on a dairy farm in
Kent County. After obtaining his electrical
and plumbing license, he started his
own electric, plumbing and excavation
business. Since 1989, his business in
part handled public works, as well as the needs and operations
for the Town of Betterton. For more than 10 years,
Kip was the Town of Betterton’s Superintendent of Public
Works until his current employment with the Town of
Centreville. Kip resides in Betterton with his wife Monica,
who teaches at Kennard Elementary. Kip volunteers his
time for the Betterton Volunteer Fire Company as an EMT,
Fire Fighter, Rescue SCUBA diver, Emergency vehicle
driver and also serves as Vice President. In his spare time,
he enjoys his grandchildren, riding his Harley Davidson
motorcycle and camping.
