Steve Walls Hired as<br />

<strong>Town</strong> Manager<br />

<strong>Town</strong> Council announced at the Feb. 21 Council<br />

meeting that Steve Walls had been hired as the<br />

<strong>Town</strong> Manager. Steve took his oath at the March 7<br />

meeting.<br />

Steve has been serving as the Acting <strong>Town</strong> Manager<br />

since January. A life-long Queen Anne’s County resident,<br />

he attended <strong>Centreville</strong> Elementary School, <strong>Centreville</strong><br />

Middle School and is a graduate <strong>of</strong> Queen Anne’s County<br />

High School. Steve graduated from Chesapeake College<br />

and the University <strong>of</strong> <strong>Maryland</strong> College Park. He<br />

received his Master <strong>of</strong> Science in Public Administration<br />

from Wilmington College. Steve spent 33 years in various<br />

management positions with Queen Anne’s County government,<br />

including Director <strong>of</strong> Public Works and Director <strong>of</strong><br />

Parks and Recreation. Prior to starting with the <strong>Town</strong> <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>Centreville</strong> in July 2012 as the Director <strong>of</strong> Public Works,<br />

Steve was the <strong>Town</strong> Manager for the towns <strong>of</strong> Sudlersville<br />

and Millington.<br />

Clifford “Kip” Matthews, Jr.<br />

“Kip” Matthews, Jr. has<br />

been hired as the <strong>Town</strong>’s Public<br />

Works Director.<br />

Kip grew up on a dairy farm in<br />

Kent County. After obtaining his electrical<br />

and plumbing license, he started his<br />

own electric, plumbing and excavation<br />

business. Since 1989, his business in<br />

part handled public works, as well as the needs and operations<br />

for the <strong>Town</strong> <strong>of</strong> Betterton. For more than 10 years,<br />

Kip was the <strong>Town</strong> <strong>of</strong> Betterton’s Superintendent <strong>of</strong> Public<br />

Works until his current employment with the <strong>Town</strong> <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>Centreville</strong>. Kip resides in Betterton with his wife Monica,<br />

who teaches at Kennard Elementary. Kip volunteers his<br />

time for the Betterton Volunteer Fire Company as an EMT,<br />

Fire Fighter, Rescue SCUBA diver, Emergency vehicle<br />

driver and also serves as Vice President. In his spare time,<br />

he enjoys his grandchildren, riding his Harley Davidson<br />

motorcycle and camping.<br />
