Procedure: Organ Recovery – Single or Multi-Organ - <strong>NDD</strong><br />

Skin Prep:<br />

Solution as per hospital protocol. Prep from chin to<br />

mid-thigh.<br />

Draping:<br />

Laparotomy drapes are acceptable with a wider area<br />

of exposure. Free draping is also acceptable and may<br />

be preferred.<br />

Position of Patient:<br />

Warming blanket is placed under the patient. S<strong>up</strong>ine<br />

with arms tucked in at the sides.<br />

Grounding pads, EKG electrodes and other devices should be placed on the posterior side of the body, away from<br />

the sterile field.<br />

To be added to the basic Laparotomy set <strong>up</strong>:<br />

Back Tables:<br />

• 1 for Instruments<br />

• 1 for Organ Perfusion<br />

• 1 for Lung Team –if needed<br />

Single Basins:<br />

• 2 Single Basins in Ring Stands<br />

• 1 for Perfusion Table<br />

• 1 for Lung Perfusion Table (if recovering lungs)<br />

Mayo Stands:<br />

• 1 for BCT Below Diaphragm Instruments<br />

• 1 for BCT Above Diaphragm Instruments<br />

• Cautery Machines x 2<br />

• Suction Units x 3<br />

• Extra IV Poles --2 x Above Diaphragm<br />

--1 x Below Diaphragm<br />

• Defibrillator available with Internal/External<br />

• Silk Ties (2 silk, 2-0 Silk, 3-0 Silk) as requested<br />

• Scrub Gowns – <strong>up</strong> to 6<br />

• Extra Grad Jug<br />

• Scalpel Blade x 1<br />

• Flexible Bronchoscope with sputum trap (if<br />

recovering lungs)<br />

Stock Fridge with 1 liter of Cold pourable Saline.<br />

Buckets of Ice needed at the end of case.<br />

3 x 1 Litre IV bags of Saline.<br />

*Retrieval team will be in contact with the OR prior to the start to confirm<br />

and/or request additional equipment needs
