Body of Work<br />

22 – 24 november<br />

Presented by the <strong>Canberra</strong> International Film Festival, the inaugural Body of Work honours the king of<br />

indie cinema, the great movie impresario Harvey Weinstein.<br />

Harvey Weinstein and his brother Bob founded Miramax Films (1979) and The Weinstein Company (2005)<br />

in New York City, and have produced some of the best movies of the past 20 years, from Pulp Fiction to<br />

The Artist to The King’s Speech – and been nominated for an incredible 303 Oscars and won 75!<br />

His championing of Australian cinema has seen The Sapphires, Strictly Ballroom, The Piano, Muriel’s<br />

Wedding and many other local films become international hits and launch-pads for their creators.<br />

Body of Work will be a three-day conversation on the importance of independence in the film industry.<br />

Event speakers will discuss the many ways independence breaks new ground – through innovation, risk<br />

taking and the search for talent.<br />

During the event, Harvey Weinstein will be presented with an award in celebration of his extraordinary<br />

place in world cinema. And he in turn will present an award to the winner of the inaugural <strong>Canberra</strong> Film<br />

Fellowship Prize to an emerging filmmaker.<br />

Conversations, talks, panel discussions, Q&As and film screenings will be held in multiple locations<br />

across <strong>Canberra</strong> to pay homage to Harvey’s passionate leadership of independent cinema. Speakers to<br />

honour Harvey will include the many talented Australian filmmakers, writers, directors and actors whose<br />

careers have benefited by being championed by the king of indie himself!<br />

Galore<br />

Directed by Rhys Graham, produced<br />

by Phillipa Campey, and shot in <strong>Canberra</strong>,<br />

‘Galore' tells the tale of Billie and Laura,<br />

two reckless teenage best friends who share<br />

everything, except for Billie's biggest secret;<br />

she's crazy in love with Laura's boyfriend.<br />

The film, set in the midst of the 2003<br />

bushfire that devastated <strong>Canberra</strong>, is<br />

currently in development.<br />

<strong>Canberra</strong> International Film<br />

Festival<br />

30 October to 10 November<br />

The <strong>Canberra</strong> International Film Festival (CIFF) is the capital’s<br />

signature film event, showcasing approximately 60 extraordinary<br />

films from home and abroad each year. There are in excess of<br />

17,000 (and growing) cinephiles that devour a diverse range of films<br />

over the 12 day celebrations at various venues across the capital.<br />

CIFF enhances the film-going experience by securing special<br />

guest commentators to discuss the issues revealed in the films.<br />

The Festival Lounge is always a buzz, with filmmakers, directors,<br />

actors and other experts who participate in fascinating discussions<br />

and dissection of film. Panel discussions are another hot favourite<br />

in the festival program – be prepared for an indulgent talkfest about<br />

all things film.<br />

Each year, about 30 countries make up the rich fabric of filmmaking<br />

at CIFF. With a wide range of genres, and award winning films from<br />

the major international festival, there's something for all film fans.<br />
