Pauls bid 7 Lakes adieu

Seven Lakes West
Seven Lakes was built on the
shoulders of a heroic generation
-- full of folks with rolled up
sleeves, few horn-tooters to
stumble over.
Two of the finest and most
colorful are about to leave after
27 years on Lake Sequoia. Dee
Dee and Dave Paul came here
through the corporate pipeline as
so many have.
Dee Dee developed in a family
of twelve on a Kansas farm.
Dave was an only child of Boston
privilege.
Through the early years in
Seven Lakes, Dave served on the
boards of the community and
the country club. Dee Dee
cooked and hustled food for the
original Birthday Club.
Dave could always be found on
one of the golf courses where he
was known to play a competitive
game, still is. Dee Dee gave no
quarter at the bridge table.
She worked at the gate for
awhile and during many tax sessions
at Elaine Yow’s tax firm.
My friends, it was Dee Dee
who I called at 5:00 am after
returning from the hospital the
night that my husband Chuck
died.
However, for those of you
who haven’t known them, let
me share my favorite Dee Dee
story. Early in the Seven Lakes
social scene at a cocktail party
a new arrival was doing the corporate
routine of talking about
their company and school credentials.
Salty Dee Dee finally said
“Frankly, my dear, in Seven
Lakes we don’t give a damn.”Yes,
they broke the mold for Dee
Dee.
Goodbye to the Pauls. May
life in Boston be good. And thank
you from Seven Lakes.
7 Lakes hosts Jr. Championship
Seven Lakes Country Club
will host the Tour Championship
for the Eastern Junior Golf Association
on June 10th and 11th.
The event caps the year-long
season for these talented Juniors
who range in age from 8 to 18
and have competed in up to 27
matches at course throughout
North and South Carolina to
reach this final event. This year
a full field of 120 players from
North Carolina, South Carolina,
and Virginia is expected in
nine divisions, determined by
age and gender.
Like their PGA and LPGA Pro
Counterparts these talented
young people are not allowed to
use carts during the event and
some age groups play from the
Championship Tees.
They are expected to be familiar
with all aspects of the game
including rules and etiquette
with special emphasis on proper
conduct on the Golf Course.
