Design and function 

Fascination on wheels 

Nobody can ignore the fascination of a 

Colorado motor home. Soft, rounded 

contours create a compact, clear form 

which is both harmonious and 

extremely powerful. Following the design 

language of the most exclusive 

sports cars, the dynamic lines of the 

Colorado both catch and hold the eye - 

the low front end of the vehicle and 

the rising roofline make it seem that 

the vehicle is crouched and ready to 

spring. 

This energy, convincing in every detail 

and from all angles, is also manifested 

at the rear. The three-dimensional deign 

means that the Colorado is 

absolutely unmistakable, even from 

behind. 

But even so, the design of the 

Colorado is by no means sheer 

indulgence in "form for form's sake". 

The desire to combine form and 

function in the best-possible way has 

been consistently implemented in the 

cabover and part-integrated models. 

And the roof contour of the TI models, 

based on a wedge, proves that integral 

campers do not have a monopoly on 

aerodynamics. The convex form of the 

side walls not only emphasises the 

automobile character of the Colorado 

design, it also makes it possible to 

provide a wider bed at the rear.

great deal of chic, the interior takes up 

the dynamics of the other contours.

Two-tone finishes in the look of genuiine 

wood contrast with aluminium 

profiles. Softly rounded edges and 

convex s-shaped cupboard flaps bear 

witness to the formal consistency with 

which the designers have also 

implemented the "new line" of the 

Colorado in the interior. Exclusive use 

of high-quality accessories makes it 

clear that the Colorado is aimed at

The Technology 

Twin-floor design 

The attractive exterior of the Colorado surronunds 

a technical concept which combines 

innovative design features with a high degree of 

functionality. Between the floor compartment 

which houses technical equipment and the roof 

shell, a body has been implemented which 

allows weight to be saved without compromising 

essential vehicle stability. 

Rigid aluminium profiles link the glass-fibre laminated 

sandwich panels with one another. Even 

the underside of the rotproof floor of hard 

polystyrene foam sheeting is covered with glassfibre 

reinforced plastic. The quality of the 

materials used, combined with the painstaking 

build process, guarantee the long life and 

ongoing high resale value which are characteristic 

of a Karmann mobile home. 

The on-board technology is accommodated in 

the floor compartment and is therefore easily 

accessible. Charger and fuses can be reached 

through hatches in the floor, while heating air, 

which is distributed via the floor space, protects

against cold from underneath and prevents 

pipelines or tanks from freezing in the winter. In 

combination with the wide chassis, specially 

developed for the Colorado, the floor construction 

helps to keep the vehicle centre of gravity low.

The Colorado 

Enjoyable drive – relaxing experience 

In the Colorado, you will enjoy your 

holiday trip from the very first 

moment. A wide and deep step makes 

entering the driver's cab easy. After 

settling into the ergonomically-shaped 

seats, you choose your optimum position. 

Both the seats and steering 

column can be adjusted for height and 

fore-and-aft and thanks to the 

adjustable armrests and headrests and 

the generous space in the cab, long 

journeys are absolutely no problem. 

And the Colorado is not only your ideal 

partner as regards comfort, but also 

offers optimum safety. The safety 

concept includes the easy-access joystiick 

gearchange next to the steering 

wheel and driver and passenger airbags 

as standard, as well as antilock brakes 

(ABS). With the electronic differential 

lock (EDS) and traction control (ASR) 

and also the engine drag torque 

control (MSR), which prevents the 

drive wheels from breaking free on 

slippery surfaces when the foot is 

quickly removed from the accelerator, 

you will be safe, even when road 

conditions are treacherous. 

A well-thought-out storage system with 

roomy glove compartment and 

numerous integrated storage spaces 

make for greater convenience while 

travelling, as do the power windows 

and electric external mirror adjustment, 

which are supplied as standard. 

And of course we did not forget the 

environment when we designed the 

Colorado. For example, all diesel 

motors are also suitable for use with 

rapeseed methyl ester (biodiesel) in 

accordance with E DIN 51 606. And a 

soot particle filter which makes short 

work of hazardous fine dust is available, 

too.

Safer and more dynamic: 

The Colorado suspension 

The most important features which 

have to be provided by a mobile home 

chassis are a comfortable ride 

combined with a high degree of 

driving stability. In the Colorado, a 

specially-designed wide wheelbase suspension 

ensures perfect poise and 

stable ride characteristics. The low 

centre of gravity particularly makes 

itself felt on bends and in side winds. 

The perfect harmonisation of the highquality 

components within the lowframe 

chassis of the Colorado reduces 

suspension and body vibrations and 

increases comfort while travelling. The 

single-wheel suspension and the 

trailing arm with torsion bar are not 

only invaluable when negotiating 

bumpy roads, but also make town and 

motorway driving a great deal more 

pleasant. 

The weight requirements of a mobile 

home place quite specific demands on 

the shock absorbers. For this reason, 

shock absorbers are used in the 

Colorado which - in contrast to more 

conventional systems - are not only 

fully effective in the middle weight 

range, but also when the vehicle is fully 

laden. The result: optimum ride quality 

for a relaxed driving experience.

Despite its softly rounded and harmonious lines, 

the silhouette of the Colorado cabover models is 

still strong and dynamic. The body and cab seem 

to be "all of a piece". The low alcove offers - hardly 

recognisable from the outside - one of the most 

generous interior spaces in its class.

Up and away 

The space concept of the Colorado cabover 

models is based on four different layouts with 

four different emphases: starting with the 

compact Colorado 550 with a length of 5.68 m, 

through to the Colorado 600 with a traditional 

seating area at the rear up to the 6.75 m long 

Colorado 660 with a fixed double bed or semicircular 

seating area at the back. 

The dynamic lines of the Colorado exterior are 

echoed in the interior of the vehicle. Rounded 

surfaces in two-tone finish in contrast with 

attractive matt aluminium profiles make for less 

rigid contours. This means that the generous 

interior appears even larger and more open.

Interior design in 

its purest form 

The ongoing synthesis of attractive form and 

consistent functionality is also expressed in the 

careful use of high-quality materials. The entire 

Colorado body consists of glass-fibre reinforced 

sandwich walls, which do not give damp the 

chance to penetrate, even if the surface is damaged. 

And attractive appearance was not the 

only criterion when selecting the materials for 

furniture surfaces and upholstery; robust wear 

qualities were also given primary consideration. 

All cabover models have space for four people 

to sleep comfortably, but the seating groups are 

different. The largest is in the Colorado 650, 

and the semicircular arrangement easily offers 

enough space for six people with its extendible 

table. In the Colorado 660 you can enjoy a 

glass of wine in the half-dinette, while the 

children play in the rear seating area.

A new benchmark for 

mobile living 

A unique ambience is created in the TI models 

through the dynamic interaction of the different 

materials and colours. The exclusive interior 

with its generous living space sets new stanadards 

when it comes to style. But in the 

Colorado TI, unusual styling is always also 

superbly functional. For example, the convex 

shape of the side walls supplies the extra five 

centimetres needed to build in a comfortable 

double bed across the back.

requirement we set our interior designers. Does

yourself. Two-tone finish in "Welsh pearwood" 

and "Vermont maple", contrasted with mat 

aluminium profiles, varies the surfaces of the 

furnishings and emphasises the generous 

proportions of the interior, while providing 

unique elegance and flair. You will discover the 

true nature of the Colorado TI and the extent of 

its practicality and convenience when you take 

your first holiday!

Bathroom and kitchen 

Setting the scene 

The desire to interpret and combine form, 

colour and function in ever new ways has been 

implemented in all the function areas of the 

Colorado. The use of coloured transparent 

acrylic material sets design accents in the 

kitchen. Elegant anthracite and warm wood 

tones emphasise comfort in the bathrooms. 

And optimum use of space ensures that there is 

room for a separate spacious shower, even in 

the smallest Colorado.

No compromises 

A modern roof construction spans the production 

facilities for all Karmann mobile homes: up to 

2,000 vehicles can be manufactured in a 

production and storage area of 6,000 m2 over 

two floors. With the help of state-of-the-art 

logistics processes, but above all with the 

commitment and know-how of the Karmann 

workforce, a chassis is turned into a mobile 

home of groundbreaking design and the 

highest possible level of manufacturing quality - 

the Karmann mobile home. 

Countless draft designs form the basis of a new 

model, for our standards of design and 

manufacturing quality are equally high. Model 

studies of the interior and of exterior details 

precede implementation in initial prototypes. 

Before the first models can be tested for their 

readiness for production proper, the hundreds 

of components which go into a Karmann 

mobile home are carefully selected – all with 

the aim of offering you the best possible quality 

when it comes to materials, components, deign 

and functionality. With no compromises and
