Safety<br />
For each theme area, twentythree priorities, the actions needed to realize them through the National<br />
Architecture Instrument and the expected benefits were def<strong>in</strong>ed on the basis of the comparison and<br />
research of a general agreement from the different actors and groups of <strong>in</strong>terest represented <strong>in</strong> <strong>TTS</strong><br />
<strong>Italia</strong>.<br />
The f<strong>in</strong>al aim of the document is to represent a real contribution for the def<strong>in</strong>ition of an <strong>ITS</strong> national<br />
policy which enables <strong>Italy</strong> to face all the challenges com<strong>in</strong>g from the <strong>in</strong>teroperability needs showed by<br />
the European systems and from the launch of Galileo expected <strong>in</strong> 2013. In this view, the objective is<br />
to exploit the great opportunities offered by <strong>ITS</strong> to the <strong>in</strong>tegrated development of the national<br />
transport system and logistic, ensur<strong>in</strong>g benefits to the economy, to the competitiveness and to the life<br />
quality.<br />
The Plan document “The <strong>ITS</strong> Systems. Ideas for a new mobility of the Country” was presented on the<br />
13 of December 2007 at the Convention “Mobility, Territories, Technologies. The <strong>in</strong>fomobility as<br />
priority for <strong>Italy</strong>”, organized by the M<strong>in</strong>istry of the Regional Affairs and the Local Authorities at the<br />
Chamber of Deputies Conference Hall.<br />
European Projects<br />
<strong>TTS</strong> <strong>Italia</strong> has been <strong>in</strong>volved s<strong>in</strong>ce July 2007 <strong>in</strong> MENTORE, a European projects co-f<strong>in</strong>anced by the<br />
European GNSS Supervisory Authority .<br />
Participation <strong>in</strong> the project constitutes a great opportunity for the Association to add to its <strong>in</strong>ternal<br />
know-how and transfer this to its members. This <strong>in</strong>creases the value that <strong>TTS</strong> <strong>Italia</strong> can give to its<br />
associates and, therefore, makes it more attractive to potential new members.<br />
MENTORE (iMplemENtation of GNSS track<strong>in</strong>g & trac<strong>in</strong>g Technologies fOR Eu regulated<br />
doma<strong>in</strong>s)<br />
MENTORE is a two-year project promoted by the European<br />
GNSS Supervisory Authority (GSA) through funds from the 6 th<br />
Framework Programme.<br />
Capitalis<strong>in</strong>g on the results of previous European research,<br />
MENTORE analyses the technologies, service platforms, market<br />
scenarios and the service provision schemes of EGNOS/Galileobased<br />
track<strong>in</strong>g & trac<strong>in</strong>g regulated Services.<br />
MENTORE implements and operates 5 real-life Pilot Service Demonstrations <strong>in</strong> various application<br />
doma<strong>in</strong>s: transport, freights and goods, animals and persons.<br />
MENTORE supports the Commission’s “GREEN PAPER on Satellite Navigation Applications” and one of<br />
the ma<strong>in</strong> expected results of the project is to give guidel<strong>in</strong>es for the creation of best practices <strong>in</strong><br />
regulated track<strong>in</strong>g & trac<strong>in</strong>g services of EGNOS towards Galileo.<br />
MENTORE <strong>in</strong>volves 18 Partners <strong>in</strong> 6 EU countries and Canada: services providers, <strong>in</strong>dustrial groups,<br />
telecommunication providers, market operators, transport authorities, regulatory bodies and agencies.<br />
In MENTORE, <strong>TTS</strong> <strong>Italia</strong> is <strong>in</strong>volved as support for the project management and <strong>in</strong> the dissem<strong>in</strong>ation<br />
activities.<br />
