This outer edge of Nova Scotia is soaked. Soaked with

little port city of Sydney that is the unofficial capital of Cape

Louisbourg in the 1750s all the way up to right this minute
with a toss of the dice or the turn of a card at Casino Nova
Scotia. You can stand where Guglielmo Marconi worked
his historic wireless magic receiving the world’s first
eastward-bound transatlantic radio message.
Or you can step into Glace Bay’s beautiful Savoy Theatre and
catch a concert by one of Cape Breton’s many internationally
renowned Celtic superstars. The juxaposition of
centuries works seamlessly here, from touring the underground
deeps of a coal mine, to revelling in the military
history of one the New World’s most fought-over outposts,
to enjoying the music, food, and scenery that make Cape
Breton one of the world’s best island destinations. You are

Two Rivers Wildlife Park, Mira River
Cape Breton’s Mira River has been celebrated for
its almost mythic beauty in song, in prose and
poetry for generations. But mythic beauty doesn’t
always go a long way with the younger set. That’s
where Two Rivers Wildlife Park comes in. Located
at the junction of the Mira and Salmon Rivers near
Marion Bridge, this 500 acre (202 hectare) wildlife
park and rehabilitation centre is fun central for
families. The animals and birds – domestic and
wild, native and exotic – have all either been born
in captivity or have recovered from injury but can’t
return to the wilderness. More than 40 species of
animals and birds live along the park’s wilderness
trail and in the petting zoo. Getting up close to
magnificent creatures like Bald Eagles, Black
Bears, Moose, Emu, and Cougars as well as the
cuter woodland critters like racoons, otters, and
groundhogs is just a beginning. Swim in the Mira,
cast a line at the U-fish or play in the paddle boats.
The park is open every day except December
25th. Winter fun includes sleigh rides, skating,
and cross-country skiing!
