• Directs the Office of Research and Scientific
Oversight, the Research Support Services Unit
and the Oversight and Evaluation Unit
• Provides management and oversight of the
Center’s intramural, extramural and seed
grant research programs including the project
selection and external review process
• Serves as the Center’s working liaison with
the UAB School of Engineering and the
Southern Consortium for Injury Biomechanics
• Co-directs the UAB ICRC
• Co-directs the SCIB

for Administration
and Finance
Mr. Jeffrey Foster
• Directs the management and coordination of all non-research
programmatic and support activities of the Center
• Develops budgets on Center and project level; interfaces
with intramural and extramural parties having budgetrelated
interests; prepares financial reports and other
documentation for the funding agency; and reconciles
financial statements and reports
• Assists in the coordination and management of the
research project selection process, assists in the monitoring
of research project quality and progress; maintains
currency of information in the Project Management Reporting
system; plans and executes all grant application and
non-competitive renewal activities; coordinates submission
of final research reports
• Supervises the UTC Outreach and Education Liaison and
the UTC Webmaster; writes and produces UTC newsletters
and annual reports; represents and speaks on behalf
of the UTC at intramural and extramural events; interfaces
with outside print and electronic media; serves as primary
interface with the UTC funding agency and with other
parties of interest
• Coordinates meetings of UTC members and affiliates; facilitates
UTC investigator and staff activities; assists in the
development and execution of education and technology
transfer activities
• Facilitates pre-activity and renewal-oriented continuation
approval from oversight boards and regulatory agencies;
ensures project-related personnel and activities are in
compliance with IRB, HIPAA, CIRB and/or the IACUC
MANAGEMENT STRUCTURE & PRINCIPAL CENTER STAFF 9
